Window regulator trouble

I'm having trouble with a new window regulator and can't figure it out. I just put new weather stripping and rebuilt vent windows in my doors, this is on my 85 and they're manual windows. The original regulators had wheels that wouldn't free up so I replaced them with AC Delco Professional series regulators from rockauto. Both sides went up and down great until I put the door panels on. Passenger side is fine but the drivers side binds up when the window is halfway up. It starts trying to come out of track, to the outside of the door. It doesn't do this with the door panel off. After a bunch of fiddling with it trying to figure it out I ended up bending the regulator. I've got a new one on the way. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Re: Window regulator trouble

Anyone? The replacement regulator is $47.95, don't want to bend another one.

Re: Window regulator trouble

I had an issue with some of this when I did up my 1982. What we found is the LMC stuff caters towards the newer glass. You are going to think im nuts but there are two kinds fo glass in the doors newer trucks have a thinner piece of door glass and the older stuff is a tad thicker. I put in the thinner glass and no problem anymore

Re: Window regulator trouble

Bob, I'll tell you something funny. The driver's side door exploded it's glass on me three or four years ago as I was shutting the door. I got a replacement window out of a pre-80 truck in the junkyard. So no, I don't think you're nuts, I think you just pointed out the problem. Thanks man, I'll see if I can get a later one at the bone yard.

Re: Window regulator trouble

I appreciate that. Well, the pick and pull lists an 86 C20 on the lot. I'll go see if it has glass. I guess I'll have a replacement to keep for my 79, just in case. I'm going to be a pro at pulling vent windows before this is over.

Re: Window regulator trouble

Yup not sure when it happened, but my 78-79 glass i have is defiantly thicker.
Noticed it thicker/heavier when i swapped the 78 Jimmy door glass/vents/panels to 89 Burb parts.

Re: Window regulator trouble

The window I got out of the junkyard was in a pre-80's truck, but someone had already pulled the glass. It was sitting on the bench seat. I mic'd the glass in the truck this morning and both my driver's side and passenger side glass are around .12 or .13 inch. I checked that against my 79, the glass in it is .19". So I have the right glass in the doors. I'm at a loss here. The new regulator is here, I guess I don't have much choice except to pull out the glass and new weatherstripping and start from scratch.
