New here

Was Up,
Not new to the Forum just been following threads doing research before I started my build now after a year I finally got the funds to build a 49 Chevy pickup 3100 was going start the build using the original frame but got a good deal on a 91 extended cab short bed s10 that I plan to use for frame swap. But after looking at the 49 3100 cab it seems like the ID plate is missing, now Im wondering should I try and get the ID plate with the original frame before I spend anymore money on it or should I do the frame swap and then try to register it?

Any help would be really appreciated this going to be my first classic truck build will post pictures of trucks when Im off work

Re: New here

The original frame does not have any numbers on it and I would not spend any money until you have a title or a definite way of getting a title

Re: New here

In my experience, your going to have to trailer it to an inspection done by Highway Patrol or DMV agent. What stage of "road worthy" it has to be in would be determined by the state, You should check with the DMV for your state and find out the details then decide from there your plan.

Re: New here

I'm doing a 53 & S10 swap just up the road from you in Windsor. Just getting started. In regard to your title, in Calif. if you inquire at DMV, either in person or on line, you automatically get recorded into the system. Sooo, if your vehicle is unregistered & so old it is not in the system, now all of a sudden you are back in the system & subject to all the deadlines to get it registered & back penalties. You are better off to use a professional title company & let them do it.
They know all the tricks to avoid penalties. It cost me about $300 to get mine registered & I had no title at all, just a bill of sale & we didn't even use that. If you are titled it is easy unless you have penalties. The people at DMV don't really know how to handle these old cars & trucks & if you ask the wrong question or give the wrong answer, you're screwed. There is a very good title person in Santa Rosa. PM me for her name

Re: New here

Finally got her paper work started was able to find a cab with a VIN. Have to get her weighted maybe this weekend. Sold the 4.3/700r4 combo for $450 to a local said he going to use the set up on his 55 Plymouth. I will be going to go with the 5.3/t56 combo or 5.7/t56. Will post up more pictures soon now that the house renovations are done with.
