Gauge faces

Is there a place to get custom gauge faces made for the AD trucks? Going to experiment with a gutted S10 clusterand the stock housings.

lay them on a scanner and edit them yourself in MS paint. Then print them and laminate them. They arent backlit, they are edgelit, so there is no problem with having them be solid instead of transparent.

You will realize with a custom set that the temp and the oil pressure will read backwards if you use the s10 steppers. I did this on my 47 and it worked great except for the two backwards gauges.

Re: Gauge faces

The project boogie build is where I got the idea to use the S10 gauges. I have two clusters to play with. The stock 91 unit was temp, fuel and Speedo and I have a 95 unit with full gauges. These are the earlier versions with no circuit board. The stepper motors are simple power, ground and signal. Should be real easy to wire up. I'm still think there is something with that fourth terminal on the back. Also thought about wiring it backwards to see if the gauge sweeps the opposite direction.

Re: Gauge faces

Your comment about wiring the stepper backwards; I have read on several threads on this site where they were going to try to reverse poles but no one has ever said if it worked or not. Would be excited to know if it really works. Clay

Re: Gauge faces

I tried reversing the coil on the steppers on my 47 and it did not reverse the direction. in any event, if you are making new faces, just reverse the direction of the gauge text. I left the old faces and penned in the correct readings with a gold sharpie.

Re: Gauge faces

OK, thanks Joedoh. Looks like that is the way it has to be. Clay

Re: Gauge faces

When I get around to it I will make sure to post my findings. Good bad or otherwise.
