Building a 1980 extended cab Chevy?

I've been searching 2 days for build threads on how to convert an 80's Chevy pickup into an extended cab but I can't find any. Could someone lead me in the right direction? I'm wanting to build a chore truck to feed cows. I'm wanting to make an extended cab longbox.

I would take a crew cab frame and shorten the cab and frame,Or if you got the time and money you can buy a extended cab truck a few companies made these back when these trucks was new.

I think now that you are hooked up with this site you will start seeing them; there are several ext cab enthusiasts that often post when one (not theirs) comes up for sale.

Long bed frame short bed , bob the rear rails and stretch the cab to the bed.

That is the way to do it...unfortunately, all the coach built units just shortened the front of the bed...and that looks like crap.

Re: Building a 1980 extended cab Chevy?

I just spotted this one in Barrow Alaska.
It has Silverado 10 badges, no extra Windows, 8 lug axles, and a wrecker in the bed.

Re: Building a 1980 extended cab Chevy?

I think if i was to build one id use a k5 body on a longbed frame that way i allready had the roof and side structure all there then just cut the length you like and weld on the rear portion of a c10 cab. The side windows would be the only tricky part but im sure they wouldent be that bad. Id measuse up a bunch of trucks and find ones with ext cab windows the same height as a c10 and just cut around them a couple inches and weld that into your cab. Then you would have opening rear windows with easily replaceably glass.

Re: Building a 1980 extended cab Chevy?

I had started a thread about this several years ago and to build one from scratch the easiest way would be start with a crew cab chop the doors down x amount of inches then shorten the cab. Cut the b pillars weld them to the back doors and then find some suicide hinges for the back doors to open like a regular extended cab would.
Install a 90s or 2000s rear extended cab seat and modify the stock door panels to look decent. Also to shave the rear door handles and install the ones into the b pillar so they open like current extended cabs. Then either shorten the frame to run the stock bed or build a flatbed for it. But shortening the frame would also include a new/ modified rear driveshaft.

My plan was and still is if I find a crew cab that is clean enough is to shorten it just enough to get rid of the window in the back doors that stay stationery then the body line around the window will still match the truck unlike the ones that were build from the coach companies

It would definitely be a long build to make everything look nice
