Need Some Help On Engine Codes...please
BACK OF BLOCK........3970010
FRONT OF BLOCK.......14R491193 looked at mcnasty's and found it's a 350 but not much else any idea's thanks mark |

there should be another number on the front of the block. I think the number you have is a partial vin. In the attached pic, the VO112CLJ is the number you're looking for. It won't be the same of course, but the number/letter grouping should look like that.

If I remember correctly it would be a 4-bolt main 350 truck motor.. I think my new crate motor had the same # on it but would have to go look..

date code
Definitely a 350, look at the "clock" and date code on the back of the block and post if you can. The most usefull will be the last three letters on the pad you see in 68 Stepside's pic above. Get those letters and a date code we can tell you what application you've got.

WELL MY BUDDY'S GOT THIS ONE.....
want to look at the one in the truck to see if it can be used or not??? if not will have to use this one after a rebuild of course |

it could be either....no way to tell until you pull the pan..the 010 blocks have more 4 bolts than 2 bolts...having said that..I have had 3 010 blocks..all three were 2 bolts...go figure

Here is what Mortec says according to the first batch of numbers:
3970010....302.....69....4 bolt...Z-28 Camaro 3970010....327.....69....2 bolt...Trucks and industrial 3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4 bolt
