AC compressor
I will be installing a 350 turn key crate engine for my 68 gmc , it will have a serpentine belt system and the modern AC compressor ..
Will it work with the old ac coil and condenser ? Or is this a question I need to present to a car refrigeration expert ? |

The system will work with either but there are things to know depending on which Freon is used. I have a old school looking system but it runs 134 a Freon. Which I upgraded the condenser and acummulator and did away with the expansion valve and drier.

Ok , my main concern was the compreser and evaporator I didn't want to have to remove the new unit and try to get an older style compressor . I don't mind dealing with the condenser , as it's not yet installed .

some oils and refrigerants are incomparable , upon completing your install , you should flush , draw vacuum , and put compatible components in , there should be no issues

The "modern A/C compressor" is a R4?
Which a/c hose are you using? The factory one? The mounting point is moved several inches forward with the R4. The factory hoses will bolt up and reach. You might need to bend the tubes slightly.

By "modern" compressor do you mean it has an R4 (short radial) or it has the HT6 like most '96 up trucks?
The R4 with a serpentine system puts the back of the compressor in a similar place to an original A6 with v-belts. You may have to bend the tubes slightly. The biggest issue is the POA valve and R134. Some people adjust it to work with R134. Some replace it and make it a hybrid cycling system with an expansion valve. Andy's picture shows using '77-87 accumulator and orifice tube system cycling system. I would just use R12 and keep the POA.

Well it sounds like I don't have any big issues to deal with , so I feel, better about going forward with the new turn key motor .
