C20 alignment specs?

I've taken my 1971 C20 to be aligned twice since getting new tires and it still wanders. The tech couldn't find the proper specs for that old a vehicle so he used specs for a newer 3/4 ton. I have a read out of what he came up with. Before I go back to him a third time, does anyone know the specs for my 71 C20 2WD so I can compare to what he did? I can't find on-line.....Thanks

Re: C20 alignment specs?

My 1970 wanders some too. Wandered a lot more before I discovered the nut that hold the steering arm to the gearbox loose. Tightened it up and got a big improvement. I have 33x12.5x16.5 tires.I'm thinking the problem is worn bushing, ball joints, etc. until I get around to replacing everything I think I'm going to have to live with it. Sorry I can't answer your question about specs.

I have 15" wheels with a street tread tire. I've check, and also the tech checked, all ball joints, steering box,tie rods, bearings, etc and all appears OK. It's lubed and has no excuse to wander in my mind but the alignment....

Re: C20 alignment specs?

Have you checked the rag joint? It could show underneath it while checking, that the front end is solid. It could be slack on the "north" end of the box and you might not see that from underneath. I can did out my service manual if nobody else chimes in. Jim

I have used 3 degrees positive caster and camber as close to 0 as possible 1/8" Toe in. Seam to work well what tire size are you using ? Air pressure ? I like around 55 psi in my 265 75 16

Re: C20 alignment specs?

I like about 1/4 degree neg. camber to get good handling. The specks usually call for pos. camber for some reason. I get good even tire wear that way also.

My tires are LT 245/75R 16 (my mistake saying 15" originally)
I run about 55-60 lbs pressure
I checked the rag joint and it appears fine all around.
I'll take it back to tech and see what he says-Thanks for all replies.

Re: C20 alignment specs?

What kind of tires? You said "street tread" tire. Are we talking a passenger car rated tires with weaker sidewalls than a truck tire with more plys in the sidewall?

I had a 1996 GMC Yukon I bought that had P265's on it all around. Slopped all over the road like crazy. When I put LT265's on it, almost all the sloppiness went away.
