Blazer gas tank in C10??

I need a new gas tank for my LSx swap on a 1985 C/10 SWB. I can get this 1990 blazer tank. Is this a direct bolt-in on the pickup chassis? I know the fuel inlet will need to be relocated, but I can get it for nothing.

Anyone know how many gallons the blazer tank is.

If I remember right my 82 blazer had a 25 gallon tank on it..I think they had a 30 gallon also...I would need a big ladder to put gas in that one..ha ha

I don't know if it will "bolt in"..if your tank is good I would consider keeping it and running external pump...that's what I did on mine and I've had no problems...

i just read thread where people use the 87+ tank for their ls conversion. i was thinking of doing this also.

The only difference between the 1987 tank and the earlier ones is a small pan welded to the bottom inside. Must be a baffle but the donar truck I used for the LS motor didn't have any baffle inside its plastic tank.

Your donor truck didn't have baffles in the tank because they use a fuel bucket type sender. The bucket keeps fuel at the pump at all times. You really need some kind of baffle in a tank with an in tank mounted pump if it doesn't use the bucket type sender. For the price of a new '87 tank, around 80 bucks new, I would go that route before trying to adapt a blazer tank that you don't know what the inside looks like. Some things are not a good deal even if they are free.

I wish the donor fuel sending unit with pump would work in my '85 tank. That would be nice.

so let me get this right.. I can take a fuel pump out of my doner veh. 0(03yukon) an it will sit right inside the blazer tank? 87 and up right?

For the price, I just bought a new 87 pickup tank and sender, the EP381 pump drops right into the sender and plugs into the harness. Like a glove.

No, the fuel pump unit out of the 03' won't fit in the 87' tank (at least not without mods).

You need the sending unit from an 87' and an ACDelco EP381 pump (which fits directly into the 87' sending unit as mentioned by MalibuSS).

I used a Walbro pump instead of the EP381, but the concept is the same:

Those tanks are not blazer tanks. I want to know more about the blazer tank swap to. im also hearing they hang to low for bag trucks, is that true. i have a 5.5/7 static right now but swapping to porter built stage 2 kits. any pics and help please

Yes, I'm aware of that. The exact same info applies to the Blazer tank. 87' tank, 87' sending unit, high pressure fuel pump (Walbro or ACDelco EP381).

I used a 92 blazer tank kit in my build. No its not a direct bolt in. was quit a bit if modification, but I like the way it came out

Did you have to cut the frame anywhere for it to fit ?

i think the tank may hit the ground when im all done and air my bags out. it does hang low

Yes, there was a lot of frame trimming. 1/4 inch to 1 inch in some places

If you're wanting to lay frame, then you're going to most likely need a custom fabbed gas tank, and it probably won't be as big as a stock tank. It seems like you want a cheap option, which is fine, we all do, but if you're buying Porterbuilt parts to get really low, then a stock (read "cheap") tank probably isn't going to happen. This thread is centered around a stock tank swap. The last thing you want to happen is smashing a tank on the ground if you have an air line or bag problem going down the road.

Hello to all. LS1nova71 is correct. trust his expertise. He would know. The cheap option is for you, I think, is to use the stock, in-cab tank, with a external fuel pump. you can also modify the stock, in-cab tank and regulator, and use an internal fuel pump. To make the in-cab tank work, I modified the stock, Fuel sending unit with a feed and return, with AN fittings, while using an external fuel pump. My buddies hate in cab tanks so I eventually removed the in-cab tank, bought a fuel cell, and installed the fuel cell behind bridge, for my air bag suspension. good luck. Clark.
