66 C10 with original Drum Brakes and Power Booster ?

Hello,
I have a 1966 C10 with the 283 V8 and the 3 on the tree tranny. I have a new Master Brake Zylinder linke the Picture. I Have the original Drum Brakes all around. Now my Question. Is it a good Idea to put a Power Booster (picture 2) behind the Master Zylinder to get a better Brake force ? Must a change something else ? Also a have bought a new brake line set.

Thank you all

Greetings from Germany

Nils

I would suggest splitting the brakes and upgrade to a dual pot master cylinder while you are updating to use the power booster.

Yup first thing to swap is that master cylinder. If you go to Captnfabs thread in the for sale section for his bracket there is a list of what you will need to get for a booster and master for the drums. This is one of the best things you can do to improve the safety of you truck. There is a thread in the FAQ section on splitting the system.

Re: 66 C10 with original Drum Brakes and Power Booster ?

Thank you verry much Jimmy,

I have send Captnfabs a PM. I think about it and would now change the Master Zylinder and but a Booster on. Some Master Brake / Booster Combos are only for Disc/ Drum or Disc/ Disc or Drum/ Drum. What are the differents ? I searched and a found the Set from CPP (6366BB2-9). Can a use this with my 4xDrum Brakes ? Can i use this Set if I change in the Future to Disc Brakes ?

Thank you all verry much.

Re: 66 C10 with original Drum Brakes and Power Booster ?

I just bought a running and driving 1964 c/10 with boosted drums. It still has the single master cyl and stops great. With that being said I don't like the fact there is no backup plan, if I blow a wheel cylinder on any corner I will be without brakes. Hope this helps and good luck on your project!

Will a 67 dual reservoir fit our 66 dual drum at the firewall? I'd like to at least split the fronts and rears...does it need a valve as well? And who makes the best brake line clips..tried to save my originals but they got a little squished up!

This is what I followed when I did my 65: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=332148

However, I used the 67 truck M/C instead of the Impala and it works just fine. Bolted up with no modifications to the push rod. I did not use a proportioning valve.

The brakes seem to work just fine to me. Solid pedal feel, and unless I stand on it, they stop without any lockups. I have been running it like this for over a year now.

Yeah, when staying with 4-wheel drums there really isn't any need to add a proportioning valve. The proportioning is already taken care of by the sizing of the front vs. rear wheel cylinders. Splitting the system with a dual master cylinder doesn't change that.

Making other changes (like swapping to front disc brakes) is a different story though.

Re: 66 C10 with original Drum Brakes and Power Booster ?

Regarding the stock drum/drum brake booster :
Does the stock drum brake booster mount right up to the firewall without any modifications?
Does the stock booster pushrod mount right up to the brake pedal without any modifications?

Re: 66 C10 with original Drum Brakes and Power Booster ?

There are a couple of different stock brake boosters. They all had some sort of mounting bracket and or wedge to mount them to the firewall as well as directly to the pedal bracket on the inside of the firewall. This ensures a good solid connection between the brake pedal, the bracket it swings from and the booster/master combo.
