That's why I asked about #6. The end cylinders tend to run lean

He could, but I do wonder how bad the cylinder wall is damaged.

Yea that isn't going to work at all. The top ring is blown out and compassion is going to just go no where but in the pan. If that thing doesn't smoke or use oil I will be shocked.

Inside cylinder looks fine
Can't be without it long enough to replace the piston..
I am looking for 1 for a replacement
But can't imagine changing it unless I plan on re ringing it tho

And a re-ring means honing the cylinder as well so the new rings will seat properly.

Re: thoughts on this pic of #1 piston

I was thinking "PING Damage" as well...Fix that and that thing might surprise you how long it will last, especially with the timing retarded a bit...? Timing and/or bad gas and high compression...?

I may have got lucky but I had a 67 with a six in it and I replaced one piston only with new rings on the one piston and the truck ran fine for two years and was still running when I sold it. The old sixes are pretty forgiving and are not a high rpm race engine.

Re: thoughts on this pic of #1 piston

Timing set at 4*
Some have suggested to up that..to what tho??
If I can get its smoking to a minimum then it can wait till another engine
But graces is that it's at the front so I guess I can lift it up enough to get that one out and replace it maybe

Anyone got a couple good used to get rid of?? Pay it forward possibly??

Re: thoughts on this pic of #1 piston

What would I have to take off to simply tilt the motor up enough to get pan off and get to rod bolts?
Probably change some gaskets n 2 piece seal while I'm at it
