quick brake hose question!!

My truck is a 68. Somewhere down the line a PO converted my truck to front disc.

Well on my way to work wednesday I blew both front brake hoses. Ordered two new ones for a 72 (due to the swap) and the original hard line: male end, is smaller than the brake hose:female end.

Any quick solutions? Fitting? Different year hose?
I have no clue what the PO used and they are WAY to long anyway. They were kinked and eventually cracked.

You can get a reducer fitting at the parts store for that one.

Tried oreilly, autozone, and advanced. Help isles and behind the counter with no luck. Would you happen to know the line sizes?

I have searched around but haven't got a clear understanding of....

1968 line will be .......... size.

1972 line will be.......... size.

If I could get the sizes I'm sure fastenal, home depot, or someone would have the fittings.

Do you happen to have the original fittings still? I have a '72 and had to get the brake line custom made. There is a place here in Las Vegas called All Hose (link below) who can make pretty much ANY kind of hose. They will even use your old fittings if they're in good enough condition. My two hoses cost around $50 to make and it was done in a day. I'm not sure if they do mail in orders...but its worth a try for a guaranteed perfect fit.

Just be sure the hoses are DOT approved. anybody can make hoses. DOT approval is something else altogether.

NAPA sells the reducer fittings, I bought them for a 70 monte carlo 12 bolt to go in a 65 GTO. common enough if you and your parts guy know whats what.

After further observation the passenger side hose threads are larger than the drivers side. I double checked with oreilly and even their pictures show two different size hoses????

Since I have ever owned 68's.... where the 72's hard lines different sizes?

I don't know for sure on the 68 vs. 72 line sizes, but GM brake lines are almost always 3/16" or 1/4" tubing.

The 3/16" lines typically have 3/8"-24 inverted flare nuts. And the 1/4" lines typically have 7/16"-24 inverted flare nuts. However, some locations have special over-size flare nuts to prevent lines from being accidentally connected to the wrong ports on things like master cylinders & proportioning valves.

With that said, I'm going to guess the hard lines on your truck are 3/16" diameter with 3/8" male threads on the inverted flare nuts. And you need adapters to connect them to flex hoses that have the larger 7/16" female threads. If that's the case, look for Weatherhead #7818, Dorman 785-432, Edelmann 258340 or other equivalent adapters like this --> http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...8340/N1415.oap

These should be available locally if you have a good auto parts store that's willing to look things up by part number (and not just year/make/model).
