Forward tilt hood for 65 GMC

Hello all, i am thinking of installing a forward tilt hood kit on my 65 GMC and was wondering if any of you have installed or had one installed on your pu. Was wanting to know the pros and cons before i got started on this project. And if you know a good choice of a kit. Thanks

my opinion on this is i think they look cool .. its different but it looks to me to more of a PIA when it comes time to work on your truck now you have a giant wall of metal in your way when ever you want to work on the front of the engine at all unless you made it so it was detachable so at those times you could take it off all the way . BUT these hoods weigh a ton so thats really not the best idea either .. its really up to you on something like this weather or not to do it . i was just throwing those to Cons out there for you just in case but ide have to say just the cool factor alone is not really worth the hassle of it but then thats me ..... Happy Truckin

Check out http://www.forwardtilthoodkits.com/6...hood_kits.html
I talked to Kevin & he's going to make a lot for 60's c10s as you'll see you can access the front before it tilts forward

Re: Forward tilt hood for 65 GMC

I believe member Joedoh has a forward tilt hood on his truck. There was one on Youtube at a show somewhere as well.

A quick search came up with these.

I haven't seen the first one before, but I have seen the second.

Thanks for the info, was at a car show in Pomona over the weekend, and I saw one one on a 57 Ford like the 2nd Utube video you posted, the one I saw on the Ford put the hood almost vertical which was nice. Looking to see if they make them for GMs.

Re: Forward tilt hood for 65 GMC

I have a forward tilting fiberglass hood on my 65. I fabbed my own set up. As for pro's- it actually gives you more access to the engine IMO since the engine sits so far back, other than that nothing really except it is different. Cons- I use a prop rod that is occasionally in my way. Would I do it again- probably.

Oh- one other positive is that the hood will not fly up if you leave it unlatched.

Thanks for the info, I have had my hood fly up on me before I did my engine and had it painted. It caused quite a bit of damage :-( . That is good to know I won't have to worry about that happening. I have a steel hood. Thanks for your input.
I'm going for the Cool Factor.
