Does my tank look right?
I bought a new top fill gas tank from LMC a couple of days ago and finally got around to opening the box tonight to check it out. 3 of the 4 corners are bent and Im not sure if I should return it or try to fix it. What do you think? Man up and straighten em out or return it for one with straight corners? Just dont want this to affect (effect?) anything.
I attached 4 pics. 1 of each corner. Sorry for the sideways shot. |

Re: Does my tank look right?
I doubt it would leak but that's just poor packing and shipping damage , Call them up and ask for allowance (partial refund) for dealing with the problem if no decent refund make them replace it . Looks like it was tossed around during shipping .

Yep, at least make them aware of it, just in case. That way if it does leak your not going to have to fight with them.

Re: Does my tank look right?
If you like the tank I would just straighten it, however I didn't like the fit of the tanks and went with one of these. http://www.fueltankparts.com/replace...3-72-c-10.html

Re: Does my tank look right?
I ordered my tank from Impala Bobs, it came in looking slightly worse than yours. I called them and they sent out another tank no charge, never asked for the old one back. Now I have a spare. It will probably be okay, but I was worried about leaking where it is bent. It looks like the same tank I got, you will probably need to bend the bottom flange out anyway to get it to sit flat. I just used a plastic dead blow hammer.

ms - Can you elaborate a little more on why you didnt like the fit? Did you try to install the LMC tank and have problems? That tank from fueltankparts looks sweet and I found a couple of them online that were better quality than what I bought for sure. However...the price is also more than double the $150 price tag of the LMC tank. If the LMC tank gave you troubles please let me know how. Id like to find out what problems I might run into before I start the install and may switch tanks if it sounds like this install will be too much trouble to deal with. Thanks! |

Re: Does my tank look right?
The pic in the LMC catalog shows what appears to be the corners being bent on purpose.
So does the Goodmark catalog. So does the CPP catalog. Gary

Re: Does my tank look right?
Looks like a USPS or UPS problem rather than an LMC problem.

Re: Does my tank look right?
Gary I think youre right. That one corner with the big downward bend is shown on the photo. That must mean there is something on the truck frame that requires the bend? I still have yet to pull the bed off so not sure why the bend is there or where it goes.

Re: Does my tank look right?
I tried the poly version of that blazer tank and couldn't get it to sit right in my frame rails. Overall I liked the cleaner look of the aluminum tank from Boyds, I also helped him with the measurements for his initial design. It might be a bit pricey but that has the sending unit and everything, plus they can tweak things if you need. Sometimes they offer a group buy on the forum.

Re: Does my tank look right?
New or not, with all the crap that is being manufactured today. I would take the tank to a radiator shop and have it pressure checked to be sure, then maybe even coated. There is no way I personally would take a tank and blindly install it. Too many times I've had to do things twice.

Re: Does my tank look right?
Any gas tank I've ever purchased is always bent, scratched, dented, you name it. Never had a problem with one other than the looks.

Re: Does my tank look right?
The tank I bought from Autozone had the bent corners but it does look like you might have one corner that was an accident.
