What size 17 inch tire to use
I am using 17inch FJ steel wheels on my 64. I have a 4/5 static drop. What size tires are you guys running on your 17's? I have read 245/45/17 but I would like more input.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
I was doing research on this myself a few months back. I currently run 235-75-15 tires, and was going to go to a 235-65-17 since they are almost the same height.
Not sure if that helps or not. But either way, please post pics once you have those wheels on. I am seriously considering the same wheels!

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
I need more help.
The tires I have now are 205/70/15 and I want to get a tire for my 17s that will fill the wheel well. I am not going to bigger wheels. When I do a tire size comparison with a 245/45/17 it is smaller.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
Those wheels look pretty narrow. They look to be around 6" wide. The widest tires that will look right on those would be a 225, possibly a 235. Personally I think these trucks look good with a 28" tire so that would be a 60 series in those sizes (225/60/17 = 27.6" diameter, 235/60/17 = 28.1").

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
I am with Rick on this one to fill the wheel well nicely a 28" tire work well. That is what I am running but on 15" wheels. I think those wheels are 7.5" wide with 4 1/2" of back spacing. You may be able to get away with the 245 on the rear but the front may have issues in the front with your drop. It may fit OK or be close it is hard to tell. You could get your rear set mounted and bolt them on the front and see how it fits and if your good get the second set.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
The wheels are listed at 7.5 inches but I measured at 8.5 from lip to lip. I like the idea of a taller tire 28 or 29 inches. I am thinking 255/60/17 (29) or 255/55/17 (28). Ill post pictures after I do it. I will buy tires in the next week.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
On my 17x8 wheels, I used a 235/60-17 tire, which comes out about 28".

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
Did you measure inside or outside? Inside at the bead is where you need to measure.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
FWIW, I went on the recommendation of 245/45r-17 for tires and I'm severely disappointed. They look too small for the size of the truck. Like those 235/60's. About perfect.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
Also, I should add I'm using the FJ rims with a 4/6" drop.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
Bolted them on. The bed is just sitting there and not bolted on. I have to make a new cross member to go around the gas tank.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
You said you had a 4/5 drop, the pictures look stock height. I found these caps while looking for the wheels you have on ebayy and thought they might look cool with a Chevy logo panted in the middle. They kinda have that old artillery look to them.

Re: What size 17 inch tire to use
Those do look nice. I may just stay black or add a Chevy center cap later.
