'62 K10 NP205 swap: Crossmember swap needed?
I'm looking at swapping the transfer case out of a '62 K10, to an NP205.
Will I need to change out the cross member to do this? -Brad

i would bet so. i am not familiar with that series of 4x4s as much, but i would bet you will need to do something with the cross member and either an adapter or maybe a different transmission.

yes, especially if your truck has the original rockwell divorce t-case in it. as Ryan stated, you'll need a trans/adapter and related items. You could install a divorce np205, unless your wanting the married setup.

Re: '62 K10 NP205 swap: Crossmember swap needed?
It's a divorced set-up from the factory, so I'd be going with a divorced NP205--I won't need an adapter from the trans to the T-case.
Just wondering about the crossmembers to mount the t-case is all. I've got an iron-case 4spd OD manual New Process A-833 to put in front of it. -Brad

More than likely the 221 and the 205 used different mounts but that might not be hard too fab up or modify the one you have. Its just a matter of pulling the 221 out and checking. Sounds like a cool setup! OD in that setup would be great!

Hunting for a PTO winch, gonna keep the pizza-cutter wheels and tires, found a factory sway bar out of an early K5 blazer last weekend. 350, with the OD, Dana 44 front and rear, both with posi units, spare tire on the fender, Jerry can on the running board, and a pair of ammo cans on the other--one with tools, the other with winch gear. Basically stock, and totally reliable. And 100-percent capable of daily-driving. (I put 80,000 miles on the Suburban in my avatar, through 20 states, before a deer wiped out the front end two years ago). -Brad

I haven't tried but I think you could use the existing upper crossmember and side mount setup from the t221 with some modifications.

there are two different D-205's Dodge and International and both mount differently.

Re: '62 K10 NP205 swap: Crossmember swap needed?
I have looked at using the original crossmember and think it could be done, but the crossmember that goes with a divorced np205 would be more stable and an easy conversion.
P.M. Me if you are seriously looking for a divorced np205, PTO and winch.

Re: '62 K10 NP205 swap: Crossmember swap needed?
I wish I had some pics of the 205 and original cross member as I was doing the install. I used a Dodge divorced 205 and by drilling 4 holes into the crossmember (1-1/4" IIRC) and using a variety of spacers and threaded rod was able to mount the 205 to the stock crossmember using the T221 bushings. Its held up well now for a couple of years and I like not worrying about it like I did with the 221. Biggest word of caution if you go this route - when you drill the 4 holes, measure, measure and measure again. I didn't and now my case is 1/4" off center (towards the passenger side) which made getting the drive shaft angle correct on the 13" trans to case shaft nearly impossible.
Shifting is another area of concern. I will probably get cable shifted eventually just for ease of installation. For now, my shifter is a small pry bar that I take under the truck with when I need to shift it. LoL
