Re: 70 c10 no title options
The best advice is to go talk to the DMV about the title. I never buy trucks without titles because you never know what could be the end result. Could come back stolen and your truck gets taken.

Re: 70 c10 no title options
Don't spend a dime on that truck until you get a title IN YOUR NAME. I have a couple examples sitting in my pen at the shop of why not to do that.
You might try the bonded title method but it is a few hoops to jump through, but worth it if you get a title. |

Re: 70 c10 no title options
I take AR requires title on vehicles older than 25 years as some states will issue registration on a bill of sale only for them. Georgia, NY examples. These registrations from these states can usually be transferred to titles in other states. Of course all needs to be legit. You could try to reserach the vin with the dmv and see if stolen. If not it can be done maybe -- not real easy tho. Look in Hemmings.
In Ohio you cannot legally sell a vehicle without a title. They can be junked but the frame has to be cut in two. But a registration with bill of sale can be transferred from other states. You can get a builders title in Ohio but that titles it the year that it was inspected and passed for highway use--if vin does not show stolen -----in other words - now would be a 2016. Takes receipts on all major components.. Like I found an abandoned vehicle on my farm. The whole deal is that states do not want stolen vehicles to be moved around from state to state which is a good thing. Bonded titles in TX still require an orig title as I have been thru that. In my case in TX I had a signed orig title but the owner had died and he could not sign the mileage document. Not sure on AR. Last edited by dennislbrooks; 03-30-2016 at 08:18 AM. |

Mamu, I would talk to a title company, look at your state's Motor Vehicle website, & try to find others nearby who've already done it, then make a decision from there. Bonded titles in Texas are fairly simple, & maybe your state will be simple as well. |

Re: 70 c10 no title options
It varies from state to state, generally the DMV/MVA will have an online menu with the FAQ. If that doesn't answer your questions, call them. Some states require a bill of sale, and may want a bond for issuing a title. Some assign a new VIN and a title. Many times, a stolen vehicle insurance claim has already been settled with the original owner, and they may not have a right to reclaim it, but the insurance company may. I don't think any underwriter would want to claim an old truck claim that was settled years ago, but who knows? A lost title search may be fruitful, in states where that is required for a title issuance. Call the DMV/MVA, and start figuring how much you want to spend to get it legit.

Re: 70 c10 no title options
You'll get more bad info in a thread like this than good... Don't listen to many who haven't done this in your state.
Your state's DMV web site should tell you how its done in your state. Also, do a web search on AR bonded title for example, and start reading. https://www.google.com/search?q=AR+b...tle&gws_rd=ssl It took me about 5 hours to get a bonded title in TX, total, with searching, downloading forms and getting the process down, then running from here to there to get estimates, a bond, DMV title search and finally at the title place it all came together on the first try. Cost was maybe <$150. I started with a bill of sale on a scrap of paper. You may also be able to do a mechanic's lien. Something else to search. |

Re: 70 c10 no title options
I am a used car dealer in the state of Arkansas.I have been a car dealer for 25 plus years in the state. Bonded title is probably gonna be your best option although it is a major rump pain. The first thing you will have to do is apply for the bonded title. This gives the DMV[in AR it is called DFA] the paperwork you have for the truck. Then they will take the vin # and search to make sure it is not stolen OR it has a lien against it. The latter is more of a big deal than the first cause a lot of times a lien may have been satisfied but not have the lien release recorded and if it does and has not got the release that kills the application right then and there.
If it is all clean they send you back a statement of ability to get a bonded title then you go get the insurance on it[the bond part of the bonded title]with the amount of bond they set [they set the value of the truck and you have to get a policy on that amount]. I have a 68 in the same shape right now but it never has been tagged in AR so that makes it more difficult.I have been through the bonded thing a couple times and it is a good deal of foot work I did all of the paper work in LR at the capitol to cut down on the dfa people that dont quite know their jobs. There is a lot of turnover in those positions and the odd ball stuff like that isn't in their main training I think. Each person not working with those types of things every day may not know the rules as they change up often. At the Ledbetter building there is an office for bonded titles. Good luck if I can help holler. Jim |

Re: 70 c10 no title options
I just finished getting a bonded title for my 67 GMC in AZ. I agree that the normal people helping you at the dmv don't always know everything about the process.
Last time I was denied the title because I had no paperwork from the guy I bought the truck from saying he wouldn't apply for the title.. But on this truck there is no records of it in the system at all (Orig owner passed 30 yrs ago) so I shouldn't have had to get that because hes and nobody are even on the records.. Yesterday I chose to argue when they tried to deny me again for a different reason, and I ended up getting it. This time they tried to tell me I need emissions for it (In AZ its required for a title transfer.. how ridiculous huh!?) BUT, I had a level 1 inspection for the bond which can cover to transfer a title. But the lady didn't know and was arguing with me. Once she finally got the supervisor, I got my title and was on my way! In 3 years the title will be a completely normal clean title. I paid $100 for the bond |

Re: 70 c10 no title options
Every state is different.
Check with your state. I always go with this motto. If you don't have a title (unless your state doesn't issue them on this old a vehicle) "YOU DON'T OWN THAT TRUCK". Someone (last registered owner) does, just not you. You may have possession, and even feel you have a "vested interest", just don't own it. In Arizona you can also apply for title as a tow company. Just fill out a form showing who asked you to tow it off their property for free, and file for title. They will look and see if their is any body out there looking for their truck, and if not give you title. Easy peasey, "unless, someone claims "their truck". In which case you are owed the tow bill, and up to 10 days (time allowed to file) storage. Towing companies do it every day.
