4l60E compatibility question

I'm doing a swap into an 86 k10 next week. Originally i was going to swap a 350 back in but the motor i hac turned out rougher that I had thought, i have a 5.3 sitting in the shop thats good and a rebuilt 4l60E from a 99 suburban. The 5.3 is out of a 2001 so my question is are there any problems I would run into with this? From what I've read it should be fine but I wanted to make sure that was the case.

Re: 4l60E compatibility question

Nope no issues running the 2nd gen 60e in your build. The biggest difference in the 2nd and 3rd gen is the switch to the 300mm converter in the 3rd gen which also makes the trans a bit longer.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I've read that the t case requires an adaptor, advance adaptors makes one. They also said it will have the reluctor? Idk if you know anything about that?

Not a 4wd guy but I would guess they are talking about the reluctor ring for output shaft speed. What t-case are you trying to use?

Re: 4l60E compatibility question

Talking to advance adapters they said this is the part I needed- http://www.advanceadapters.com/produ...onadapter-kit/
It isn't cheap but if it makes it all go together properly then that's all I care about. Is there any other option that anyone knows of?

I haven't seen anything online that allows me to adapt the newer style 4l60e to the 208. If you know where I could find something cheaper I'd love that!

I am building a LS with a 4L60E to a NP241 and a 350 with a 700r4 and a NP208.
I will check tomorrow but I thought the 6 bolt flange for a transfer case was the same on a 208 and 241. So as long and the input shafts are the same they should be interchangeable.

The picture is of a 6L80E. But the adapter from the trans to the t-case are the same on a 4L60E if I am not mistaken.
I have the 700r4/208 and the 4L60/241 I will try and get a picture for you tomorrow night.
Hope this helps.

Re: 4l60E compatibility question

I found a picture of the '08 4L60E and the NP241 t case. You can see the adapter. And the vss is in the t-case. You can see the gold anodized fitting with the black connector.

No Problem and thank you! You can see the build of these trucks by clicking on the links in my signature.

After looking at the pictures myself, the adapters on the 6L80 and the 4L60 have a different flange pattern where it bolts to the trans but I think the transfer case flange bolts are the same pattern. I will check and if they are I will get the GM part number off the Adapter and post it

If I didn't use the advance adaptor, what would I use for vss, or can I go with out it? Where do the 2wd truck trans have the vss?

Re: 4l60E compatibility question

You may need to upgrade to a new process 241 with the VSS sensor. I am not sure if you read the tail shaft of the transmission when the transfer case is in low range it will not give you the correct mph. Unless you put a switch to tell the computer you are in low range. There may be something in the tune that needs to be set up. I would have used the 241 if it had the old school speedometer cable. But they are hard to find so I went with the np208.

As far as not running a VSS sensor. It may be possible or need to be tuned out. I am not too sure how that part works. Sorry hope I am not confusing you.

Re: 4l60E compatibility question

You will need a Output VSS signal or the Trans will not shift.

Correct..... NP208, NP241, NP261, NP263 all use the same Round 6 Bolt mounting pattern. But the Adaptors are ALL different besides 700R4 & Early 4L60E's have the same pattern as a TH350.
TH400/4L80E/6-Bolt 4L60E/6L80E are all different from each other.

Thanks for the info, I just went ahead and swallowed the cost and ordered the adaptor. I'm on a bit of a time crunch so I had to get this rollin. Another question I have is wether the Flexplate from my LS will be fine or if I need a spacer or anything like that. Thanks to everyone for the responses, it's crazy how much help there is here, I'm glad to be getting some of this stuff figured out so I can contribute more.

Close up of the adapter for the NP241/4L60 mounted.
Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.
