Windshield Removal

Is there a way to remove the windshield from a 62 C10 without cutting the rubber?

I do have a spare rubber but it was fitted with a brand new seal just before it was shipped to the UK and it just seems a shame to cut it to bits to get the windshield out.

Cutting the seal around the perimeter of the glass reduces the risk of cracking the windshield during removal. However, if getting another windshield is easier and cheaper than a new windshield gasket seal, you can try pushing the windshield out while attempting to lift the lip of the seal over the pinch weld rail from inside the cab.

I dont know what a windshield costs but Im sure it is cheaper to replace the seal seeing as shipping to the UK would probably cost 10x the cost of the seal.

I dont mind cutting it. It just seemed a shame because it was brand new, the only thing on the truck that is!

It can be done, 1 piece of thin cord around inside, plastic putty knives thin paint stir sticks , work the rubber flap away from the metal.. Squirt bottle soapy water. Work the cord under the rubber...2 people ...push the glass carefully get the rubber inside flap moving out, the side wrap around should slide forward. Take your time .

Had a look at this last night and the windsheild is fairly loose in the frame but I dont think Ill chance it. For all a new rubber costs, £30, its not worth the risk of braking the glass. Think I'll just cut this off tonight.

Well I just cut it out last night. took 10 minutes and is a lot safer. Now I need to store it for the next 2 years while I rebuild the truck - without breaking it!
