Transporting a blazer top on a C-10?

As the title says, what kind of hardware or size bolts do I need to secure a single wall top to the bed of my C-10? my blazer isn't driveable right now otherwise I'd drive it to get the top.

I wouldn't mind drilling a few holes on top of the rails as my truck is a beater, as long as the top is secure and tight, I will be driving like this for a couple of hours, is this doable? any other ideas?

Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like it should work. I may suggest that you remove the hatch as that will let the air go through and not try to tear it off your truck, not to mention get you more than 3 mpg. Good luck on the move.

When I bought mine I just fliped the top upside down and tied it in with rope... It did not have a hatch on it though..

I have never done it, but I would suggest C-clamps instead of drilling holes if the lip is wide enough for a good bite. Maybe cut some 2x4's the proper length to even the pressure out...

I have transported tons of blazer tops, somtimes up to 1500 miles, the way I have always done it is this---I take and cut 2-3 2X4's that are about 12" wider than the top, then I set them across the bed rails from side to side. After you set the top on that, I always take 2 big ratcheting straps and and strap it down going straight across from bedrail to bedrail, if you cross them the top seems to move a little. Anyhow I have never had a top move on me, they ride great, I would either leave the hatch on and set the top facing backwards, or remove the hatch, either way works fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys!, I had tought about doing it the way John just suggested, but it crossed my mind that using the original hardware that holds the top on the blazer would also work on my truck's bedrails.

I just wanted opinions as I lost a cab last year for not strapping it tight enough

Set it on backwards with the hatch closed and as close to the cab as you can get it. Then 6 or 8 c clamps would hold it securely

That also went through my mind, now wouldn't the clamps damage the top without some type of gasket in betwwen?

I just drove 300 miles with a camper shell temporarily attached with 4 clamps and no damage to truck or camper.. I didnt want to drill holes in a bed that is cherry.

Put a piece of wood between the clamps and the fiberglass.

looks like a nice top, what did you have to give for that? am assuming it is a single wall top. I am on the hunt for one also.

Is a nice single wall top, the one on my blazer is a double wall that's sagging on the middle, got it from GMCNORTON, he gave me a super deal on it $80 He had no use for it and wanted out of his yard. what a guy!

I've got one in my yard, but it matches the K/5 in my yard . I've seen a few listed for sale around here in the $50-$75 range (don't know if they are double or single), but that would cost some serious $ to ship to Tennessee.
