D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

Going through the Dana 44 in my 72. Tracked down seals, bearings, etc (no thanks to the people at all the parts stores in Durango; if it doesn't show on a computer system search it doesn't exist). One thing I cannot find, or even find mention of, is replacement spindle studs. I'm not sure if that's the correct name, but I'm talking about the studs that press into the knuckle, and that the spindle then bolts to. NOT talking about the wheel lug studs.

Four of mine have been broken or damaged. Three were replaced by someone/multiple someones in the past with bolts, which means they spin when you're trying to loosen them up. One was just left broken flush with the spindle face. Finally got them all apart.

Does anyone know if, and where, I can find replacement studs to press in? This is for the small-bearing spindle (not the 73-up large-bearing type, if it matters for the studs). Thanks!

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

The parts manual is showing them as bolts for 71-72 and studs were 69 down on closed knuckles. 70 bolts??

EDIT: Now I understand GM is calling it a bolt but it is a headed knurled stud like a wheel stud. Its been a very long time since I've last worked on a D44 and it was a closed knuckle that used double ended threaded studs.
For what its worth here are the pages covering the 71-72 front drive axle and specifically callout 17.

As far as locating them a 4x4 shop should be able to help you. But a search of GM for the part number and supercessions would be a good idea. Or contacting Quad 4x4 (actually they would be my first choice stop).

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

Its interesting to note that Dana/Spicer's parts and number breakout X510-8 does not show them serviced seperately. But then most if not all brake parts were installing manufacturer specified.

Anyway if you can find it the pdf X510-8DSD is worth having if you have a Dana axle front or rear axle.

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

You will not find these in parts stores , so don't waste your time.

The Dana 44 and corp 10 use the same spindle studs , just about any offroad shop, ebay will have them. You can also look for spicer dealers near you and can order them.

Spicer 36326-2

Thanks

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

Thank you guys! I really appreciate the help.

Man, all this little stuff adds up beyond expectations. Somehow I forgot this from my last truck. Someday I'll drill it into my head: Make an estimate, multiply by 1.5.

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

If you measure length, diameter, and length of splines I could try to match them up at my competent NAPA store. Just because they don't have a specific listing doesn't mean a hardware supplier doesn't offer a stud that will work. I also have a warehouse-type business nearby that only deals in hardware. They make Fastensome look like a 7-11. They will make it if they can't get it.

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

Thanks Tim. Our Napa here is the best parts store I've found in town, but that's not saying much. They're not into measuring and digging into things - just into punching part numbers into the computer. I was told yesterday that there was no such thing as a D44 cover gasket anymore because "it's just too old". I went home, did a quick search, found the part number, and lo and behold, it was on the shelf. Imagine.

Thanks for the offer of help. Using the part number CrewCab59 gave me above, I got a full set of studs and new locking nuts coming from a 4x4 seller on eBay. I *think* I'm about ready to put everything back together once the parts get here. Can't wait to see how it drives with all new front end parts and a quick ratio Redhead box! Then it's time for the rear axle...

Don't all Jeep Rubicons have Dana44s? I love that new front end feel.

Yes it is with a lot of tracking information.
Most any ebay item link can be cut down to the basics when pasting with a little editing.
All you actually need is:

Re: D44 spindle studs, anyone know where to find 'em?

Yep, saw those. But I got the 12-stud set from another eBay seller because they were the only ones I found with the locking, one-time-use nuts.
