Re: CARS AND CONES 2016 Road Trip May2-May6
Updates
Day 1 Presented by Detroit Speed The Road Trip officially kicked off at ZMax Dragway in Concord, NC! With registration & check-in during the morning the autocross kicked off at noon. And what a cool course it was!! So huge, the fastest lap of the day was just a few hundredths under a minute. With around 103 registered cars, the competitors got in several laps before a lightning-filled storm chased us out a few short hours before the scheduled finish. After waiting out the storm, everyone cruised over to Detroit Speed’s headquarters for some great barbecue and even better company. Since this event is all about the camaraderie and not the competition, the event rules state that in lieu of receiving prizes, the three fastest drivers are required to drop a small monetary “fine” into the Winner’s Cup…and at the end of the event, the accumulated total will be donated to the Be The Match Foundation! Those three lucky drivers today were: 3rd place: Ryan Mathews, 2nd place: Erik Vandermey, and 1st: Sam Strano. |

DAY 2 presented by No Limit Engineering
Day 2 of the Road Trip began with a slightly rainy drive through the beautiful Smokies. Whether you took the pre-planned scenic tour route or went on a side cruise through the famous Tail Of The Dragon, the scenery was spectacular and you undoubtedly had a great time! The afternoon’s autocross was held at Smokies Stadium; we have to give props to the Road Trip staff and crew, because the course was very technical and extremely fun!! With sunny weather for the afternoon, over 400 laps were put in before the end of the autocross portion. The lucky winners of the anti-competition who had to put donations in the Winner’s Cup at the end of the day were: 3rd place, Erik Vandermey; 2nd place, Ryan Mathews; and 1st place, Sam Strano. The Winner’s Cup donations will be given to the Be The Match foundation at the end of the week, and it’s looking like it’s going to be a substantial amount!! After the autocross, they took a short drive to No Limit Engineering for some awesome barbecue and a tour of his fantastic shop. Rob MacGregor has some really cool builds going on in his shop right now, and it was a real bonus to be treated to his humor and hospitality. Thank you to everyone at No Limit for making this a great evening! |

Re: CARS AND CONES 2016 Road Trip May2-May6
Day 3 Presented by Holley
The day dawned clear and cool; perfect for carving some corners on a good mountain road. The weather stayed beautiful until just before they pulled into Bowling Green, when the skies opened up and dumped torrential rain. Despite the wet weather, the event runs rain or shine (provided there’s no lightning), so everyone donned their helmets and ponchos and took to the task at hand! The rain cleared out fairly quickly and the rest of the day gave us a sunny show with just enough of a breeze to keep the temps cool and the autocross course fast. After a super-impressive 476 laps, the top three competitors putting their anti-competition money into the Winner’s Cup were: 3rd place, Erik Vandermey; 2nd place, Ryan Mathews; and 1st place, Sam Strano. Thursday brings us the full-day Bourbon Trail Tour and afterparty sponsored by USCA; we’ll bring you a gallery of photos from the festivities as soon as we are able! Don’t Forget…we will also be bringing you LIVE coverage of the StreetGRIP installation on competitor Todd Earlsey’s 1969 Camaro, starting at 8AM Eastern! Live footage during the build can be found here: http://livestream.com/BangShiftLIVE/events/5295341 Tune in Friday to see him run some autocross laps after the install & give us his opinion on the improvements! All week, we’ve watched competitor Joel Nystrom thrashing his 1967 Oldsmobile 442 around the autocross course (and watching him having an absolute blast while doing so), so we chose Joel for the winner of Wednesday's Free StreetGRIP System at the Holley awards ceremony! Congratulations, Joel; we hope you enjoy future autocross courses even more with your new system! |

Re: CARS AND CONES 2016 Road Trip May2-May6
Yesterday the group took a bus tour through the Kentucky countryside to tour the Maker's Mark and Jim Beam facilities. After a full day of whiskey education and a few shenanigans, the group returned to the host hotel in Bowling Green for dinner, compliments of the USCA; and a parking lot party that lasted well into the night.
Today brings a morning full of the last autocross events at NCM, followed by a final Road Trip to RideTech Headquarters in Jasper, IN. We've invited the whole community out to see the cars that will be gracing our facility, and we extend that invitation to you, as well! We will continue our live coverage during Friday's autocross. If you are in the area I suggest you stop in! |

Was Jimi Day along on this trip with you guys? (I'm assuming he's still the man over at FM3, and IIRC he and Brett are pals). He brings that LS/AMX of his out for these things, but I didn't see her in the pics.

He was there and also had the AMX. They all had a pretty good time.
