How do factory coil springs hold up?
My Burb came with the heavy duty springs all around. I am running run-of-the-mill Monroe shocks. The truck rides great, I love it, but that's because it's pretty soft. I am looking to start taking camping trips soon. I will be towing a pop-up (an old, heavy one) and throwing the typical way too much gear in the back. So I'm curious as to whether or not the factory springs are going to be happy with this. Do they degrade much over time? Truck has 50K miles if that makes a difference. Here is how it sits.... It had the factory heavyasF heads and intake in the back at the time. Looks level I think.

By hold up I mean what has been people's experience with them wearing out, and what kind of a load is reasonable.

Re: How do factory coil springs hold up?
I think for towing a tent trailer they will be fine. I towed a tent trailer and a bunch of camping gear with the stock 40 year old springs. It handled it well. I dont think it sagged much if any.
Now my 26' 5500 lb TT was a different story. That led to airbags, rear sway, and a Hensley Arrow hitch. EZ lift with friction sway worked ok, but the Hensley is the cats pajamas! 😎

What is this Hensley that you speak of?

New they are very expensive, but you can usually find them used for much less. I got a screamin deal, otherwise I would have not ponied up the big bucks for a new one. They do work VERY GOOD!

Re: How do factory coil springs hold up?
I towed a competition ski boat with my 2WD Suburban. It probably weight 3500-4000lbs total.
It towed fine. I did buy a set of truck helper springs (quarter elliptic) but never tried to put them on. I'm not sure if they were ever an option on the Suburban. They did work great on my truck that I towed a lot with.
