Throw out bearing or clutch?

Drove my Blazer for the first time today in quit a few years. It would not go in gear at first and I had to depress the clutch and push it back in and then it started making a whining grinding noise. Then while driving it just stayed and never went away. Just went slow around the block trying to test everything out. When I would stop I sometimes had to push the clutch twice to get it back to 2nd. I know grinding could be the throwout bearing but maybe I need both? If so, what brand and place is the best for these trannys? Sm465.

Re: Throw out bearing or clutch?

Maybe things were just seized up from sitting, give it another drive.

Might as well do the whole deal, no point replacing just the bearing for all that effort. I got a luk gold clutch kit from Amazon. Seemed to be the best price for a quality kit. . You will need to have the flywheel resurfaced too.

Re: Throw out bearing or clutch?

I would pop the inspection cover off and check the bearing is sliding smoothly, fork is seated on the ball pivot. Fork is in the groove of the bearing. Bearing turns freely but doesn't spin like the grease is out of it. Also check transfer case shift action.
