Help me ID my truck
I have a titled 49 ad truck that has been in the family for 20 years. I inherited it from my father a few years ago and did a s10 frame swap and made it nice to drive. Anyway, now i am getting into the history of these trucks, my title 14fpkxxxxx decodes baltimore,48, november but I see irregularities. my dad said it had 52 doors, but what I notice is, ureadable vin plate is riveted not screwed, push button door handles and vent wings. Any guarantied way to tell what year the cab is? I am looking at vintage air and evaporator kits are different for 47-49 and 50-52, and also may put the bearclaw door latches in and would like to know what i have, thanks, Mike

Re: Help me ID my truck
You're right - doors are 52 or later.
Does it have a vent in the driver's side cowl?

Re: Help me ID my truck
there are subtle differences in the cab 49-52, but like torchlight said check for a vent on the drivers side right in front of the door

Re: Help me ID my truck
50 was the last year for the driver's side vent, I believe.

Re: Help me ID my truck
Yep 50 was the last one with a drivers side cowl vent and the 47/50 trucks had flat firewalls lie this
The 51 and later firewalls had ribs stamped in them like this

Re: Help me ID my truck
Thanks! looks like a cab swap has been done, i have the later firewall and remember that the original chassis had lever action shocks, so probably was a 49 that had a 52 cab swap. still has 2 piece windshield so cant be a 54. Mike

Re: Help me ID my truck
That happened and still happens a lot. Usually a guy uses the best cab he can find when he needs to replace a the cab on a truck he uses every day and doesn't worry too much about the small details.
In states where they used the serial number off the block to title the truck the cab didn't matter much.

Re: Help me ID my truck
I think they figured out that the flat firewalls were a bit flexible and put those staped ribs in them in 51. At lease I read something to that effect several years ago.
I've had both of those cabs for over 20 years and was going to use the green one on my new cab but it has more issues than I want to deal with rust wise. It wills get used sooner or later though and probably the whole cowl section will get used on my old chopped cab eventually.
