Front Hub Swap

Forgive me if this has been gone over before but I don't know all the correct terminology to even do a search for the info. I have a 72 2wd Blazer and was wondering if anyone had swapped out the spindle and brake rotor to a more modern one? One where the brake rotor could be easily replaced and the wheel studs were part of the hub. This would save maintenance and replacement on the front wheels bearing and no greasy messes. Hope I was able to convey what I'm asking so it's understandable. Thanks for any info in advance.

You might think im crazy but i rather have a serviceable hub aka old school with the wheel bearings vs the newer unit bearings aka sealed hubs.The old school ones are cheaper to replace the bearings in and will give you some warning when they go bad.The sealed unit bearings give you no warning and are pricey to replace some are 200 bucks each.

I don't think you're crazy at all. Both set ups have pros and cons. I don't have a problem with packing bearings and changing out seals, just looking to make things easier, cleaner and just as dependable. Plus I would think a new set up would open up your braking options with a more modern set up. Surely there a way without changing the whole front end....

The challenge in making a swap like this is that the geometry and ball joints of the two spindles do not correlate. I am sure one could make them work, but it might not be worth the effort, and the effects of the different geometry could be a headache in itself.

If you are looking mainly for brake upgrade options, the majority of the aftermarket brake companies (wilwood and Baer) use a CPP modular spindle for their base on the C10 trucks. They provide a hub in their kits that installs on the spindle snout.

CPP also offers a similar hub for their modular spindle (not quite as nice as the Wilwood or Baer) that is used with their 13" brake kit.

Something to keep in mind.

We have been waiting for this spindle to become available, and Wilwood is even supposed to send us a set to mock up and test out. It's been a while in the making, but hopefully it won't be too much longer.

It will be a very nice option, just an expensive one!

We are looking forward to getting our hands on a set.
