back up light wiring? How do I hook up the back up lights to my TH400?

should be hooked to a switch on the column.....unless you've got a floor shift, then it should be on the shifter. The only wire on the tranny should be for the kickdown on a TH400

ah ok, I do have a floor shifter Im gonna have to look up some stuff online for that. So does the kickdown hook to that little metal piece that sticks out? It kind of looks like a little plastic plug?

That is the kickdown terminal!

on another note...

My back-up lights are not coming on consistently and remaining on. They seem to have a delay. I have to be in reverse for a couple of seconds, and then they may come on. I have an automatic on the column.

Any ideas?

Yeah, you may have to adjust your switch on the column, it maybe slightly out of adjustment not allowing it to come on when you move the lever, possibily allowing the vibrations of the truck to jar it in or the switch could be dirty and not getting good contact.

Well, there are two screws holding it on you have to loosen them and adjust the switch by sliding it side to side. I can't remember if you have to place the shifter in neutral or reverse or leave it in park. I will look at the book and see. The switch is under the dash towards the bottom of the column. It has Two green wires and Two purple wires for an automatic, the green wires are for the backup lights and the purple wires are for the neutral safety switch.

Okay, it says: To adjust, Disconnect wiring harness, position shift lever in drive and locate lever tang against transmission selector plate. Align slot in contact support with hole in switch and insert pin (3/32" dia.) to hold support in place. Switch is now in drive position. Place contact support drive slot over shifter tube drive tang and tighten screws. Remove pin and connect wiring harness to terminals and check operation of switch. Or I beleive that you can just loosen the two screws and adjust it from side to side until you have it where it works properly. That is what I did to mine on my old column, and it seemed to work just fine.
