Official color code paint thread (pics needed)

Almost the same question asked in all threads:
What Color is that? , Brand? , and Paint Code?

I'm stealing this ideal from another web site, but it didn't catch on there I hope that we can make it work here.

While doing some research it occurred to me that it would be nice to have 1 main thread where members can post up a picture of their Truck, the year & model, and the paint color name and code. This way, anyone doing some research, and or thinking of going with a particular color, can have a great visual library to enjoy.

Please post up so we can see what you have
...also another great way to see more awesome Chevy pics

I purchased a Chevrolet color sample sheet for 1952 trucks, off of Ebay a year ago. I will try to upload it. There are still several floating around on ebay for different years.

Re: Official color code paint thread (pics needed)

Alright, So I got around to scanning my color sample sheets. Since I am using a flatbed scanner, the colors are a little off and will need tweeking to get them right. But you can see what were the options, color codes and names. I tried to adjust the contrast, hues and everything else under the sun, but as soon as I got one color correct, the others would be way off. Also with the variations of everyones monitors/tv/ or portable device that looks at the pics, will have a different color anyways. I will attempt to get pictures of the sheets out in the sun so you can see the actual paint sample. These are sprayed pieces that are attached to the sheets, so actual color samples, not colored paper.

Also these colors were for 1951 and 1952. The last sheet gives all colors for 1948, 1949 and 1950.

This is the ebay seller I got this from. They have tons of old pamphlets and literature for older vehicles.

And there lies the problem, every computer monitor is going to show the color different than another. Colors are SOOOOOOOOOO effected by sun and shade and all, it's crazy! By the camera taking the photo, there are many things that change how we would see a color on the screen.

We can say "that color looks good" but we can't know for sure if that color code is going to look the same on our car in our driveway!

Re: Official color code paint thread (pics needed)

And I have found that some original color codes cannot be matched so you need to find a modern substitute. On my 59 the original Woodland Green code would not match. I found a 2007 GM Woodland green and had them mix up a pint to test on the wheels. Looks good to me,compared to others I have seen in person and online, and I'm happy with it. The Ivory White code did match. Also found that you have to use the recommended primer color and shade. I experimented with the recommended black, a dark grey and light grey just to see and found the black was good, others lightened the tone of the paint considerably.

Re: Official color code paint thread (pics needed)

LOL, the name means nothing 99.9999% of the time. They make all kinds of goofy names, one for each line like Chevy and GMC will have different names.

Seeing that chart for the 52 truck hits me hard, I can laugh now. "Omaha Orange" was a GM "fleet color" and used by the California "Cal Trans" trucks!

I had my truck all ready to paint it, my third paint job, I was 18. I went to the store to buy "Competition orange" and picked the color out of the Corvette color chart, one problem, they put Omaha Orange on Vettes for a few years in the mid seventies! LOL

I got the paint home and opened the can to see this color! I almost puked! I had just paid $33 for this paint I can't afford to throw it out, so I painted it.

You can't see it well in this photo being it's faded.

OMG one of the first places I drove was across the bay out to the sea side down "Half Moon Bay" for the Pumpkin festival in Oct. People thought I was part of the show. LOL

Yep. There are just too many variables. And who's to say that one person's eyes register red, green, and blue the same way another's do? A large percentage of us have some degree of color deficiency and don't even know it!
