Scored an engine for my Camaro

I have been searching for a 6.0L pullout for 6 months (LQ4 or LQ9 didn't really matter), Everyone wants $1800 or better for a 200,000 mile engine? I know these engine run a long time, But I can't justify spending that, A couple "Yards" tried lying to me about mileage.

I was ready too give up all together as I wasn't looking for a complete Engine/Trans package for customers like I usually do.

Wreaking Yard's have finally evolved too suit the LS swap community, On the other hand it has made it hard to find & expensive to buy just a Pullout engine for a fair price.

I was drinking some beer with a friend last weekend talking cars & all that, I mentioned I was looking for a 6.0L LQ4/LQ9 for my car.
He said he still has the 6.2L L92 that I helped him pull out of a 2009 Escalade about 3 years ago which I had completely forgot about. Problem was it was in the back of his mom's garage (She's a Hoarder!) A deal was stuck for $2000 & I have to help him get it out of there.

What a brutal, nasty experience! It was 108 degrees, Rats/Mice had been nesting in the garage & the urine smell was overwhelming, On top of that.....I have a very weak stomach for certain smells (Urine, Pieces, Death) & gives me dry heaves, He was making fun & I felt like hitting him in the face a few times, But I got the engine home after 6 hours, Gave him the money & told him too have fun putting all that nasty JUNK back in there!!

Performed a Leak-Down on all 8 cylinders....About 15 percent across the board (Very good for a engine that has sit so long), Pulled both Valve Covers to back the Rockers off for the Leak-Down....Looks pretty good.

Pulled the Intake, Front Accessories, And cleaned it up a little.

Brian Tooley Hardened .080" wall thickness Push Rods (7.400" long).
LS3 Timing Cover (VVT Delete).
Hinson C5-R Timing Chain.
LS2 Timing Chain Damper (Deleting the failure prone Timing Chain Tensioner)
LS2 (1x) 3-bolt Cam Gear. (Compatible with my Gen 3 PCM).
LS7 Lifters.
Brian Tooley/PAC Dual .650" Lift Valve Springs with Tool Steel Retainers, New Locks & Valve Guide Seals.
Comp Rocker Trunnion Kit.
GM LS3 Intake, Reusing my Aeromotive Fuel Rails with the EV6 L92 Injectors.
GM LS3 Head Gaskets.
GM LS3 Head Bolts.
Super low Mileage L99 Balancer that I already have.
LS3 Valley Cover with built-in PCV

I have to remove the Crankshaft & swap the Gen 4 58X Reluctor for a Gen 3 24X reluctor, Use the Crank Sensor out of the 5.3L, Drill & Tap the knock sensor holes to 10mm/1.50, Make a Cam Sensor extension harness for the front mounted Cam Sensor.

Any thought?? Hoping for 450 RWHP......

Those are great engines, i picked one up and did a carb conversion into a 74 firebird. I just swapped a LS3 cam in and deleted the VVT.

Had to swap the oil pump out as apparently the stock one will suck the pan dry once you delete the VVT and use the f-body LS1 pan.

The motor i picked up at 12,000 miles and it was pulled from a yukon denali. The owner said was making a noise but GM wouldn't warranty it and said there was no issue. So they bought a brand new crate 6.2 and had them swap it in.

I have read the same thing, But saw nothing close too Proof of this happening.

L92's have a 6 quart pan factory, 4th gen F-body pans hold 5.5 quarts....Not much difference there.
But.....You can spin a L92 a lot faster with good Springs & a Cam, I think this theory is based off that.

But LS engines do not put the Volume of oil to the Top End like Gen 1 SBC's, I have had a sump suck dry on a DZ302 on a LONG top end pull, It pumps all the oil to the rockers & it can't drain back fast enough, I just do not see this as an issue on LS engines.

I am going to replace the oil pump with a LS6 version only because I have been bit by a sticking regulator valve in the past.

Remember guys.....If you have a Rectangle Port build planned, Get your LS3 Intake NOW! They are cheap at the moment ($266), But GM WILL discontinue them in the future......Just like they did with the LS6 intake that currently brings premium money for used ones.

Yeah I figured since I was swapping the cam. May as well throw a new pump in. Cheap insurance.

Cline- don't horde parts lol. All that stuff will be available through GM subsidiary suppliers. They HAVE to make it for 10 years, and usually have a sub or tributary company which continues supply for offroad use. People keep thinking we're running out of GenIII blocks. We're not.

Come on Brew, Where is your sense of humor?? I still ticked off about the LS6 intakes, GM was selling them for under $200, Now jerks want $400 for used ones, That's why I have a crappy LS2 intake on my car now.

GM discontinued the AC Hose Assembly for my truck a couple years ago & it is just now 10 years old. I believe if the part that is getting the axe is not needed for any warranty purposes......They can discontinue it any time they want, Not trying to be argumentative as I have heard the same thing in the past....But NO proof.

As for hoarding parts, I couldn't afford too do that if I wanted to, I have a Wife & 3 Daughters!!!!

My sense of humor is somewhere with my heart, that sock I lost in the laundry, all the change that disappeared into my seat cushions.

I think the 10 year thing MAY only apply to service and wear parts. My guess is you can get an A/C compressor still, just not the prebent hoses.

I also get all this stuff through an industrial agricultural type supplier. We have muuuuch longer product life requirements, so the stuff HAS to be manufactured. Like I said tho, its not GM making them. Any core stuff (blocks, heads, cams, oil and timing parts, bell housings and trans cases) is around. The difference is that while the part may be $50 more than you'd want to pay, its brand new instead of used of craigslist.

If you ever saw the stuff that came from the GMPP catalog which has ended up on the industrial parts bin, you'd be surprised. FWIW, there is a turbo 8.8 currently being built on the "modern" big block castings all on GM "designs" but cast and made by 3rd part contractors. GM has no involvement, but its still sold as a GM motor, go figure.

My FREE used Comp XER273HR, I know this is a pretty old grind & I'm leaving some power on the table........ But I like this cam! I think it sounds good, makes decent low end power on 6.0/6.2's & still pull too 6500.

Got the engine Built, Installed, Dynoed, & Used a new Tuner for the first time.

Made a few changes since the original plan....
Cam Motion Stage 2 cam, 220/230 - .578/.561
Hollow LS3 Intake Valves
Didn't do the Comp Trunnion upgrade as people are having problems.
LS6 oil pump.

Bought the Goodson RRJ-350 Reluctor Wheel jig, Changing the reluctor was a piece of cake using a MAPP torch.
