Tranny identification
I;ve got a 72 gmc with a new 350 engine in it, and was wondering where u can tell what type of tranny is in it. im pretty sure its a 350 turbo, but not sure. any ideas what o look for to id it. thanx

i believe square pan 350 tranny. Mishapen is the 400. Hope this helps!

Quick way to tell...
If there is a kick down cable, and it only has 3 forward gears, it is probably a TH350. If it has no kick down cable, and has 3 forward gears, most likely a TH400. Or you could crawl under and look to see which one matches to this diagram; |

I was only thinking between the 350 and 400. i guess according to my description it could be a 700-r4 or a powerglide. Hope I didn't mess you up any.
