new rim ?? s

I'm in the process of laying out my new tube frame for my ad truck and want to have rims and tires on hand for clearance purposes.. I'm wanting to run 18s front and back..10" rears and 8"fronts..I'm really really liking the rushforth rated x 10 spoke satin finish rims but am choking on the price..are there any comparible rims out there at a working man's price..they look like the attached pics..it seems like everyone round here runs the 5 spoke boss style wheels and I just want to be different..I've worn out google looking at rims but can't find anything I like..

Those aren't actually that ugly for big silly looking wheels on an old truck.

Re: new rim ?? s

The ones on that truck are around 20s or bigger maybe..I only used that picture as a reference...I'm planning on 18s at the biggest..or possibly 17s..and hoping for around a 28" tire..even though they look good on other peoples trucks laying on the ground I dont want huge rims and rubber band tires on mine..dont care for the ride.. I'm just hoping someone has a suggestion for comparible rims that won't cost a 900 a piece..

"Not that ugly." Try using that one when your wife asks how she looks today!

I'll have to go down to the local tire shop and take some photos of what they sell around here and then you will see UGLY or gaudy as they are. You don't see many clean simple big rims like the ones on the green truck around here. It's either the bead lock look on 4x4 trucks or the gaudy home boy look on duded up SUV/s or gaudy rims stuck on a plane old truck to try and jack the price up like this TF.

Re: new rim ?? s

Face it man, the younger generation is maturing up into our vintage trucks. Their tastes were honed on lowrider Toyotas with giant bling bling Conestoga wagon wheels. And who cares if it runs or has accurate wheel alignment, as long as it lays rockers.

You haven't seen silly looking until you see the Mazda Miata rolling on 20's that is down by me though. Looks like a swamp buggy.

Re: new rim ?? s

Those look pretty cool Mongo and I agree...yikes...on the price.

48chevy bagged had some cool wheels on his truck builds...maybe I can find pics.
And didn't Tre5 have something different too?

All for seeing ideas / wheels you come across...thinking wheels for my Burb.

Here is what I was thinking of ....48Chevybagged built. Wheels are American Racing Daytona's. Apparently they are discontinued.

Yeah Doug..I like the boss style wheel and they look great on the ad trucks..but at that show the other night there were 19 ad trucks that I counted and 16 of them had boss wheels.I just want to be a little different when mine hits the road..

I agree and have been thinking the same about wheels. Boss wheels look good on this body style and everyone has them. Coaltrina in post above has different wheels though they are discontinued.

Re: new rim ?? s

Doug..Just saw the pic you posted of that truck so i went looking at American racing wheels and found these...vf498..they make them in several different color combos but even these are around 700 per for 18x8s and 18x10s ...but much better than 950..these could be a possibility for my list..thanks Doug

Re: new rim ?? s

There was a guy at a few of the Carlisle shows this year that had many new styles starting at $150 each. Can't recall who he is....maybe you can call Carlisle production and ask. He was at the truck show, corvettes and GM

Re: new rim ?? s

That's probably why they sell ugly big rims around here as the decent looking ones are too expensive for most working people.

Re: new rim ?? s

there is a facebook group in dallas or maybe its houston that is just late model trucks with big and deep billet wheels. as you can imagine, there are a lot of guys who talk about doing up their trucks and they even buy wheels but for whatever reason never do the work to install them. that group has wheels for sale about every other day. I wish I remembered the name of it but maybe you can find it. 18s would be a rare find on that group, you might have to stick to searching "intro" or "bonspeed" on searchtempest, I see them occasionally with a search for "billet"

also keep an eye out for the autocross guys selling fikse wheels, they are forged wheels and look like that and are really popular with the corvette/camaro guys

I had B.A.D 22"rockstars on my 65 and they cost a buttload, maybe a buttload and half a thighload, but there wasnt another set in town or at least 2000 miles for that matter. when I sold the truck there was some resistance to the price with the wheels, so I took them off and sold them for 90% for what I paid. they hold their value, thats for sure.
