'69 lifted k10 build
so im only 16, got this truck a couple weeks back, and well its a LOW buck build, so far all ive done is take stuff apart, and put it back together, but heres what ive done for now , replaced starter, put a new carb on, took the gas tank out, clened some stuff up, replaced the passenger side door, did some wiring (thanks to projectking for walking me through it, and getting me a wiring diagram) now im just needing a grill, starter, altenator, 4 new tires, and a set o license plates, some insuranse and il be driving this baby.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
Definitly a sweet truck. Keep with it and do a little at a time and in the end you can have something special.
Im diggin the paint scheme also. I know alot of guys would love too have a truck like that. Keep at it and make it your own, make wise decisions and dont get discuraged or lose intrest. I learned im spoiled working on these trucks. Most things are fairly easy and theres plenty of space too work on them.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
I have to sit in the engine bay to do anything in that area and I'm 6'0 and fit no problem lol. and the paint scheme would be cool if it wasn't chiped. sadly going to repaint. probably black with red accents and stripes. good news is 90% of what i need is cheap.

Yhea me too but i dont like getting in and out its a pita.also i can't be in there very long before i gotta get up outa there and stretch out. and the paint scheme would be cool if it wasn't chiped. sadly going to repaint. some cheap close enough matching rattle cans can really help before a full blown paint job....thats not cheap! probably black with red accents and stripes. still cool colors. my kids learning black vehicles are a bear too keep clean.

I am 70 years old so when I have to work on mine I just take the front tires off and set it on the ground.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
Those sound like lame excuses to me. Make it a priority.
When I was 16 my dad wouldn't let my 67 C10 leave the driveway until I installed them. A set from an S10 or square body should be plenty cheap from a junkyard. You can even use the factory mounting points. One of my close friends from HS was paralyzed from the neck down when she was 17 because her head hit the windshield from an accident (no seatbelt, but with your height the same could happen with just a lap belt). The car had minimal damage, the other girl with her walked away - she wore hers. She passed away a few years ago at 32.

I bought these cheap ones over nicer sets I heard about because I wasn't sure I'd keep them if I changed my seat setup -- I've seen mixed reviews but I have no complaints so far. They work as good as any seatbelt I've used. Everyone has to weigh the risks on their own, but in my book $114 is a better deal than what it will cost to put your teeth back where they go.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
The lap belts are fine. I always wonder about how I'd manage in a wreck with my '71, but then I just realize I ride my motorcycle thrice as much is the '71 and at higher rates of.speed.
To this day you have a better chance spotting my father in his truck without a seat belt on than with it. This is a guy who t-boned a Toyota Sequoia in a '57 3100 with no seat belts. Broke the wheel and column with his chest and the windshield with his head! He likes the saying if your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
Don't screw around with the engineering of the seat belts. The stock belts in good shape are superior to something that doesn't really fit "made to work" with home made brackets and so forth.
I've been in three wrecks with my trucks--including running under a semi trailer (brake failure) and being run off the road and hit a tree. The stock belts worked as advertised.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
If that's really how you feel then at least spare passengers the trouble of you get in a wreck. 67redneck and anyone else advising to get 3 point seatbelts aren't just busting your balls, it's been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by hundreds of professionals that the difference in bodily harm is massive between the two types of seatbelts. It's not difficult, and it's probably garaunteed to be the cheapest upgrade you do besides maybe brake pads or antifreeze.

Re: '69 lifted k10 build
What it should like when done, except the 69 grill, and the grill, bumper, almost all chrome back, with red details (ex. the Chevrolet letters in the grille being red)

I like the look you're going for! Keep your goals in front of you and realize that it may not come easy.
When you hit a tough spot is when you really get to learn and to improve. Improvise and overcome. Especially when you're on a budget. Good luck!
