I give up - what does AD mean?

I've read enough threads to figure out it refers to the first generation trucks, 47-55.1 but I've not been able to find out what AD stands for. Anno Domini?

I just bought one and am studying up for what is feasible to do to it. Always fun to learn new stuff.

Re: I give up - what does AD mean?

I've got the blue one an it is one of the nicest shirts I have T shirt wise out of probably 100 T shirts I have on the shelf. Yea I collect T shirts and never seem to get rid of any until they fall apart. They work their way though wear to car shows only, wear every day, wear when I work on the car and Hell no don't throw that one away I still can wear it when I weld.

Re: I give up - what does AD mean?

And for some reason AD does not stand for Art Deco which was the body style before Advance Design. 1st is Art Deco, 2nd is Advance Design, COE (cab over engine).

Re: I give up - what does AD mean?

I don't believe the "Art Deco" trucks were called that until the 80's or 90's or advent of the internet truck folk groups to point out the difference. I never heard it until I started poking around the net and my best friend in Texas drove one and still may have it stashed in the garage.

Re: I give up - what does AD mean?

You know, you may be correct on the Art Deco thing, I never thought to check it. Now as far as the horns go, yes all ADs came with 2 horns. In my case, mine has 5, every time I look at my truck I think to my truck is telling me "you make me so horny"

Re: I give up - what does AD mean?

"ADVANCE DESIGN" was simply a ad campaign from Chevrolet to sell more trucks! Just a different sized hook!

Correct, but only when referring to a 55 Chevy. In 55, the new Task force trucks wheren't ready until later in the year so the 54 body style was still sold for the first half of 55.

So for 1955 only there is two models:

- 1955 First Series - Advance Design - similar body style 47-55
- 1955 Second Series - Task Force Trucks - similar body style 55-59

Re: I give up - what does AD mean?

Kinda funny - now that I know what it means, ive seen Advanced Design in several places, I just never have seen Advance Design (AD) anywhere. Thanks for clearing that up.

"Art Deco" is a normal reference early 1947 and older (1930?) style of trucks.
