Engine swap on k5
Hello,
So I have been thinking about swapping my 305 on my K5 4x4 to a 350. I actually have a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado with a 350 TBI and 460lE I believe will have to double check the transmission to be sure. I have seen so many swaps on older models, with 5.3 and 6.0 so I figure there is not much difference between these 4 engines. So if you have done something like this on your trucks, what are some of the challenges that I will be looking into. Please keep in mind that the donor truck has everything that I will need to transfer over to the K5. The 305 carb, still runs and drives, but I would like to make it my daily driver and 10mpg does not do it for me right now. Trying not to break the bank doing this. Both trucks were given to me, so I have really invested about 800 in to the K5 so far for small stuff. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Engine swap on k5
You will need the fuel system (tank, pump, lines) from 87-91 blazer or suburban. You will also need the NP241 transfer case from 89-91 blazer or suburban for the electronic speed sensor. Or places like jagsthatrun.com sell speed signal converters from mechanical to electric. You will also need a instrument cluster out of a 89-91 blazer or suburban with the electronic speedometer (unless you go with speed signal converter). Other than that, if you are comfortable with swapping the wiring, it should be a piece of cake.

Re: Engine swap on k5
Andrewmp6,
Thanks. I believe I have the original transmission 700R4, based on the bolts on the pan 16. I think this will be the way to go too, a guy built a K5 with a 5.3L and kept the same transmission, I think he had to modify the flex plate a little bit due to the holes not lining up correctly, and a adapter to connect the transmission to the engine, so from the information that I've gathered I think it is very possible with very minimal manufacturing or modifying the configuration of both. |
