80 swb 4x4 for my daughter

So a little back story my now 16 year old daughter started bugging me for a sqaure body truck, as one of my favorites I was proud of her but let it pass with out a lot of thought thinking it would pass, but as I would catch myself checking out passing sqaure bodys I would also catch her checking out the same ones. This went on for several months and I was starting to seek out a candidate for her first truck, I was awe struck at the price's people wanted for these trucks when I was in high school mid 90's these trucks were cheap and every where and was starting to wonder if this was good choice for her. fast forward about 3 months I was repairing some farm equipment for a friend of a friend and spotted a sqaure body sitting in a shed next to the driveway, I inquired about the truck was told it wasnt hers and she didnt seem interested in talking about it. on the next trip out to the farm 1 month later I inqiured again and this time she said she would talk to the kid that owned it and give him my number. 2 days later the phone rings it the "kid" with the truck we talk I actually know him and he agrees to turn loosse of the truck on 2 conditions 1 we cant part it out and 2 we cant sell it with out talking to him first. So it comes out of the barn after 10 years here is some pics ......

Re: 80 swb 4x4 for my daughter

Good to see a truck being done for your daughter. My daughter wanted nothing to do with a truck when I offered her a 92 S-10 about 10 years ago. She bought an 08 Silverado Z71 a couple years ago and joked about my 98 rcsb as not being a real truck. Now when she does use my truck if I am working on hers she likes the comments she gets from people about the nice old truck. When she realizes the depreciation of her newer truck she may come around to an older truck.
Has your daughter picked out a color yet?

You are getting right after it. Looks like a nice truck to start out with and it looks like it will be a really nice truck when you are done. Father/kid projects are definitely the best ones.

Re: 80 swb 4x4 for my daughter

It has taken a while to get to this piont between kids sports snow storms and threats of flooding the shop I am painting in soooo, I picked this up for her to have a sqaure to drive whille we finish hers. It's kinda ruff but kinda cool at the same time just needed a motor hope to finish this up this weekend and have it driving again, besides it was a good excuse for dad to get another sqaure too.

That is the smoothest acquisition of an additional squarebody that I have ever seen. Honey, she needs something to drive while I finish her other truck. I gotta remember that.

Good looking rig, and good work on the additional truck acquisition. I may have to use that too someday.

Re: 80 swb 4x4 for my daughter

A pretty daughter with a great looking 4x4 Old Chevy Truck, is a rough stretch of road for a dad, not sure I could do it. The only thing a young boy loves more than a pretty girl, is a pretty girl in a nice old 4x4 truck.

But, I have to admit, I went the same way with my own 16yrs daughter. She is driving a 1999 7.3 Ford F250 Crewcab, 4x4 with only 67,000 miles. Though she has asked if she can drive my 1987 Chevy K30 Crewcab every now and again!

Enjoy,
