Lift necessities?
I've just ordered a new Red-Head steering box.
I've decided to go with a 2 inch lift through Off Road Design who custom order through Alcan. I'm hearing they ride much better. Also ordering Bilstein shocks. On my quote they're suggesting new brake lines $120 and a bolt in steering box brace for $130. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of needing these 2 things on a 2 inch lift? I'm ordering from Canada so the exchange will be bad enough, not to mention the shipping. However, I want to ensure I'm getting this right as it's the only time I plan on doing this upgrade. the steering box brace is a nice to have since that is a weak point on the frame but it is not necessary.. all depends on how you drive it. Some one else will have to chime in on the brake lines though.

I put a 4" BDS lift with 35" tires on mine and it stretched the factory lines. I could ride around town with the factory lines but could not do anything else. May also depend on tire size, When you get the lift on and let the axle hang free while the truck is suspended you will be able to tell if you need them or not.

The blazer frames already have a brace added to the frame in the steering box area. The truck guys buy all the ones I cut out for their frames. Not saying you shouldn't do it just saying there is some protection already there.

I replied to your PM but if your not doing heavy wheeling I wouldn't worry about the extra brace. I think it depends on your usage and as Dwayne posted above your Blazer should have the extra plate welded / riveted in the inner frame rail for the steering mount box that should help.
As far as brake lines that is a difficult one to answer. It is only going to be about 2" higher when on the ground under weight but the spring design with the thinner gauge / higher leaf count means they have a lot more arch and travel. Your brake lines need to be long enough so that when you put the Truck up on a hoist and the suspension drops fully down, your Brake lines are long enough. This style of spring will allow the suspension to hang lower in this condition than a conventional 2" off the shelf kit with thicker gauge leaves. Best thing to do considering cost is to install the springs put the truck on a hoist to let the suspension drop to its fully uncompressed location and then measure what you need front and back. Then you know for sure what you need.

Really hoping to improve the ride and driving experience with the Alcan springs, Bilstein Shocks, new shackles and bushings and finishing off with the Red-Head steering box. ryan |

If you haven't already replaced the brakes lines, I'd go ahead and get them. Otherwise wait and see. At 2 inches, I doubt there would be an issue.
Edit: I didn't pay that much for all 3 lines. Is this due to exchange rate? |

I've only replaced one back brake line thus far. So, probably a good idea. But I'm assuming I can get them locally and not have to pay shipping and exchange on them.
