Air Dam/Deflector
I seen a air dam/deflector the other day on a square body and cannot find it again or what it was in searching. I haven't been able to find another example yet to post here, but best I can explain is it is similar to a late 90's truck air dam. It goes straight down from the front of the bumper about 4-5". Not like the ones in LMC where they are offset to the rear. It also had no cutouts for tow hooks or lights. Anyone have an idea where this could be found for the older square body trucks?
here is the LMC one which im NOT looking for it was similar to this, but less curvy at the top and more straight down with the bumper on sides and front. |

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
I seem to remember them. I think my uncle had one on his truck. Back then we used to laugh wildly at putting a piece of plastic on a truck bumper.

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
My 1980 GMC had one on it. It was the only one I had ever noticed on a pre '81 square body. It functions to send more air up into the radiator area.

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
Saw them in the LMC Truck catalog a few days ago. Thought about throwing one on the dually. It helps by creating a larger high-pressure area in front of the radiator and low pressure area behind/under which pulls more air through on the highway. Also supposed to actually help mileage slightly by not allowing as much air get under the truck.

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
I sure wish someone made a repop for the 73-80s! I'd like to see what one would look like on my truck.

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
Been looking all over for an early one as well, currently building a bracket for a 4" 81-87 version for my 77. It may, or may not, turn out how I want, lol...

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
I have this one on my 86. I'm fairly certain it's stock/OEM, because i don't think my Grandpa or Uncle would have added it (Truck in the family since new).
I can get more close-up pics or mounting/behind pics if you need... I could be wrong, but a quick ebay search (i had look at this once before because mine is broken): Mine looks a LOT like GM 15569086 / GM1092123 -- looks like for 81-86 Repro here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Air-Dam-...VX7z2r&vxp=mtr there's a bunch on ebay.. if this is what you are looking for... Re: Air Dam/Deflector
Under bumper air deflectors were factory on the 81 up, they were designed to block air from going under the truck and divert it around the sides to reduce drag. There was no factory components available for 77-80.
The more forward more square ones we used to call curb finders LOL. TO the best of my knowledge those are aftermarket, and any of them that actually mount fog lamps are aftermarket. Not sure if anyone still makes them.

Re: Air Dam/Deflector
I need to put one on my truck. I don't like the fact that you can see the front of the leaf.
