No love.
I did't build my truck to please anyone else but myself and am good with how she came out ( she still isn't done but are they ever?) .
I have gotten my fair share of the " I would have done this " and " I would used different rims, suspension, motor, etc" you cant please everyone . I was wondering how many of you get thumbs up when you drive your trucks? I drive my truck a lot and have noticed that the only acknowledgment I get is from Bikers and Homeboys. Maybe my truck looks to "thuggish"?

Re: No love.
I think your truck looks nice. I'm sure if I ever finish mine there will be some that don't like it but all that matters is I like it. Did you ever notice that most of these people with "better" ideas don't even own a truck.

Re: No love.
Your truck gets a thumbs up IMO.
There have been times that people have made comments as well about my truck and I give them there due diligence which is to ignore them. |

Re: No love.
Yep good point. They all say "if I was you I would've done this" but it doesn't matter because they aren't you

Re: No love.
It's because your picture is a year old! You live in CA and it's not a Prius. Your polluting the environment with an old truck which has been classified in the MSDS as "known to cause cancer in CA and only CA", and it didn't cost $70k to get leather and a Diesel.

Cool truck!
But I build them to please me, not anyone else.

Re: No love.
I get a lot of looks and some thumbs. I have had two guys that stick out in my mind asking me if I wanted to sell it. One was riding a Harley and the other was driving a Porsche SUV.

Re: No love.
Personally I like your truck. And yes I also have heard the same comments you have & my favorite reply to those types of comments is " Oh, and where is your 60 Apache?" I would love to check it out and see how you did yours! What do you know they don't have one or any other car or truck project they're working on.
Don't feel bad though I've actually had a few people flip me off as I've passed them or they've passe me. Not in my 64 C-10 but my 71 Hearse. Like you said, you can't please everybody and I don't try either. I had the seat in my 64 C-10 reupholstered in a paisley material. Definitely NOT for everybody but I like it and that's what counts. Honestly I get a LOT more thumbs up in both vehicles than I get negative comments or flipped off. |

Re: No love.
Like your truck the way it is as well.
The "I would have done a different motor" is the one that gets me ticked off a little. My response to those people is "Oh really? What, a boring 350?" The looks I get are priceless. I get mostly waves with my GMC. But there are those that will give a thumbs up. I return it as a Thanks for the encouragement. Lotta people surprisingly love seeing the big v6 to. It's a great conversation piece. Most of the people ask when I am going to paint it. lol

Re: No love.
Man Sal, I would nearly give an arm for a ride like yours. I used to always give a thumbs up when Id see one out if I was in the '63. Ive done it a few times in my Mazda too but its not really the same. Ive gotten some funny looks so I don't do it from the Mazda anymore. LOL.
Its kinda weird though, when the '63 was running, I didn't see a whole lot of our trucks. Id occasionally get a thumbs up. Almost equally occasional was the bird from a Prius driver who had been trying to pass my 11mpg truck smell! Seems as though Im seeing a lot of them around these days and it makes me jealous that mine isn't out there too. Don't get down on your ride Sal. Its your style, its hella cool and I wish I had one! Mine has been down almost a year now and Im chompin' at the bit to get a ride in the old knee knocker regardless of what anyone around me thinks!

Re: No love.
I'll give your truck a thumbs up Sal
While someone else's truck may not be exactly what I would build, I can still appreciate all the work that has been put into it. My DD is a '68 C10 and sometimes I get recognition from other old truck guys and others are just snobs. And I'm okay with that.

Yours is way cleaner than mine. Sometimes I worry the neighbors may start complaining about how the crazy old bastard next door with the "Sanford and Son" truck will lower their property values.

Re: No love.
This is my 2nd this style. The first was a 64 that went through a title loan and could never get a good title in HS. I couldn't afford the 67- 72 then either. We had one 72 short bed that was sold in few weeks that made dumb money. But the rest were 3/4 tons. I had beaters but still cool factor.
Just got the '62 back from alignment and was full up. Got the looks, then at my buddies shop, the boys dropped it down and had to drive it to back to get air. That's when everyone gathered around for pictures. Laying bumper is a feat. When I got this truck around 1998 I couldn't give it away. A short bed 283. Stick but still most trucks were. So it's up to you to find better crowd. Me I make a point to be "that" guy. It's funny when mustang guys "know better to mess with primer trucks"

Re: No love.
As long as you're happy, who cares what anyone else thinks. If I saw that truck around here, I would've definitely given the thumbs up and probably followed you to Walmart (wherever you were going) to check it and talk trucks with you. Looking good Sal...

Re: No love.
My buddy is annoyed that I don't acknowledge people giving me thumbs up or waving, I'm just driving what I drive and don't pay attention to other drivers . In my own little world I guess.

Re: No love.
It's cause bikers and home boys appreciate style. Anyone driving a Prius or smart car isn't driving it cause it looks cool. I like em all, finished or work in progress, just my opinion.

Agreed, that is one nice looking 58, care to give some basic info on it?

Re: No love.
Sure, the 58 is my latest addiction... uhm I mean edition. Had a decent running 235, 3 on the tree when I bought it from the original owners daughter. Did motor mounts and a clutch, drove it for a while, but was disappointed in its drivability. I've been spoiled by my 66, 350/5spd, (cruises 80 @2500rpm) so I'm in the middle of a 350/700r4 swap. Pulled the 235 and sold it, still pulling off old parts and cleaning the engine bay for some paint before I drop the transplant in. After that I'll be saving my pennies and doing free/cheap stuff like body work until I decide on my next purchase.
