Survivors - original paint
I was searching thru the 67-72 area and noticed there were a lot of posts regarding survivor / original paint trucks and couldn’t help but wonder why there are so many fewer in the 73-87 forum. Are they not perceived to be important or perhaps no value? Other car collectors seem to relish over barn finds and seemingly unmolested originals and this seems to be absent or less conspicuous in the square body forum. This is not to say there aren’t posts and pictures of nice originals but since they are “newer” I would have thought there should be more. Perhaps I am missing something?

Here ya go. I think more members frequent the 67-72 boards. I like them all. I don't post the ones I might buy. I'd love the one above but too spendy |

Too expensive for me too but nice to know they are out there and better yet see them sell.

Re: Survivors - original paint
I just bought a truck that has original paint and im planning on keeping as much as possible. Unfortunately the truck was hit and one whole side is going to be fresh paint but im hoping to blend in the rest of the truck

Re: Survivors - original paint
There are still lots out there...but they are really starting to go up in value as our trucks become more special interest and less daily driver/work truck. These two were on Alberta kijiji last month...I called but they were both sold...same guy took the pair. Original trucks can never be duplicated...they will likely keep going up in value (unless the government bans them...but even then the buyers in the middle east will be after them)

Re: Survivors - original paint
I would say there is just as much interest in original paint 73-87's as the 67-72's. Here's one of mine, all original even paint, 34k miles

Re: Survivors - original paint
My 87 is original paint, with some good Arizona patina (no rust, just peeling clear coat). I intend to keep it that way.

Re: Survivors - original paint
99 times out of 100, original paint just means flaws and in my opinion its nothing to get real excited about. but every once in a while that original paint truck is NICE and a real time capsule. THOSE are special.

Re: Survivors - original paint
You are correct Sircrunch. Original paint doesn't mean nice paint. Survivor requires original paint but not necessarily nice paint. I suppose I am talking about nice original paint that would be a shame to respray. I would expect some flaws even on a low miler providing they were minor and maybe easily repaired?

Re: Survivors - original paint
Having owned old cars an trucks with 1 or 2 paint jobs on top of body work and OE paint, I can tell you it's MUCH nicer to have original paint, because you can see what you've really got. Beats the heck out of a bondo crack just waiting to happen!

Joesjunk,
That is what I had in mind. Very nice condition all original with nice paint. Thats quite a list of toys that you have. Maybe you own them all (low milers original paint)? Thanks for sharing. Darwin |

Re: Survivors - original paint
It does have a scratch on the passenger bed side. No dents or dings at all. The interior is just as nice.

The under bed toolbox was an option on the 73 & 74. Not sure when it was stopped. I don't think it was available through 1980. The trim through the middle of the door with the secondary color above it is correct. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...3&postcount=14 The in-bed fuel tanks with fill through the bed sides are not original and the spray in bed liner is not obviously.

Re: Survivors - original paint
I have a few with original paint. I'd much rather have worn original than fresh new paint when buying.
Hood was kinked when I bought it so I was lucky to find one close in color and without rust at the local junkyard. |

Re: Survivors - original paint
'84 GMC that I changed to a Chevy until I can find a nice GMC grill. I don't see myself keeping this one original paint forever as the white is showing its age and I think the square headlight trucks should be clean.
