alternator hitting valve cover fix
maybe this will help someone else out.
1970 C10 350. installed new valve cover which were taller than stock. Then alternator hits the valve cover and you can't get the belt on and not enough room to adjust as it's maxed out. This is for alternators that are on the drivers side of the engine. pretty simple fix. purchase summit racing alternator bracket SUM-G4049B. They well it in both chrome or black. You will bolt it to the same place at the old bracket. You will need to cut the bottom of the bracket down a bit and redrill for the anchor bolt. This bracket doesn't have the offset like the original so you will have to stack the adjustment bolt out with washers or like I did have a machinist buddy mill a polished stainless steel space at 3/4" thick (see pic). And the best part is you can use the same size belt! Mark |
