99 Silverado seats I just purchased

I just purchased these seats that are out of a 1998 (not 1999) Silverado. Fit pretty good, will only need to do a little modification of the brackets. Pretty comfy compared to my stock bench.

Got them for $200, which given the extremely little wear, seemed like a bargain to me. Funny how deals will surface when you aren't really searching for a part or item.

Nice! I just picked up similar seats out of an '02 Silverado. Can't wait to get them in.

Have you thought about how you are going to reinforce the mounting points (since the seat belts are attached to the seat frames)? I'd be interested in sharing notes. I'm planning on welding some 1/4" plate on the bottom side of the cab, drilling holes through at the mounting points, and taking a defensive driving course to avoid ever having to find out whether my solution will work.

I was just planning to put some 1/4" backing plates under the floor, I think it will be fine without welding them in.

Have you set yours in the cab yet? They are deeper than our stock seats by about 4 to 5 inches. Looks like they will work, but the cab will be a bit tighter than before.

I am sure I am going to have to modify my 4wd shifter as in 4 Low it basically lays on top of the bench seat.

Yukon Jack, I have seats just like that. Let me know how the install goes because I mite just do the same, and take lots of pic's.
Those are really nice because they have the built in seat belts. That's one less thing to worry about installing! Good luck.

Check under chevy van seats for beefup plates. The belts were on the seats. Its an oval shaped plate with a nut welded to it. Its what I plan to use.

Good point about not having to weld the reinforcement.

After looking at your pics again, it does look like a pretty tight fit if you want to retain any ability to recline the seat back beyond 90 degrees. I was planning on buying a new column from Ididit or Flaming River, what do you think about going with one 2 - 3 inches shorter than stock?

Bad news about the 4wd lever. Time to do some bending.

I'm thinking about one of those columns also. I think I will slide my stock column in and see how it feels then probably talk to the companies and see what they recommend.

the seats that Yukon Jack got are the standard kind, I much prefere the deluxe seats with the tougher material ant the storage bin, but anything is an improvement from the stock sacked bench seat

I've got the front seats and the third seat out of a 02 tahoe, can't wait to get back home an install them. Everybody takes some installation pics so I can do a search when it comes time for me to install them.

Boy, I can sure picture those seats in my 69! Please do post more info about the install. Mines a 2wd auto so I don't have to worry about shifter clearance.

Well, I tore the interior out of my truck yesterday and put the driver's side Silverado seat in. With the front brackets on the stock floor mounts (the raised part of the floorboard), my steering would be about the perfect distance from my chest...if I were driving a stock car.

For daily driving, I would prefer it about 3" farther away. I have a walnut steering wheel with about 2" of offset, so I think if I replace it with a zero-offset wheel I should be in pretty good shape. After pricing aftermarket steering columns ($450 - $700), I think I can live with the steering wheel an inch closer. Also, the stock (non-tilt w/ shifter) column has about 8" from the dash to the end of the column. The aftermarket columns from Ididit and Flaming River require a minimum of 7.5" from the end of the column to the dash, so swapping one of these is not going to save me much distance.

Has anyone tried to solve this problem? Any recommendations for shortening the distance from the dash to the end of the column?

I will post pictures of the whole process over the course of the next couple weeks.

Look good Jack.........Put your column in and make sure you sit in it before you go to attaching things. I had to raise mine up 3 inches so i could see over the dash and I did have to modify the 4x4 shifter.

I had a set out of an 03 tahoe, and could not use them. I am 6'4" and 300lbs and I was up to high and too close to the sterring wheel. I was told that the seats from a 98 might work for me, but they did not have the integrated seat belts. Anyone out there with 98 seats?

Mine was the same way.
I pulled the column drilled out the cruch rivets just above the rag joint. Then you can shorten the steering column length by about 3"
These are made to crush upon impact, but makes for a nice way to get room in the cab.
This does require removing the entire column.
Now I can sit back in the seat and the steering wheel is a full stretch away, Kinda in PIMP mode. You know what I'm talkin about.
Here's a pic installed with the seat in there for referance.

That interior is definitely PIMP. Gotta love something radically different!

A low cost option might be a van tilt column. The one I got had two notches in it for the tit on the dash. It allows you to mount the steering wheel further away from you. You can get two u-joints and a shaft to get from your column to your steering box from Coleman racing for around $110. A parts store here carrys their stuff. There is a picture of it in the 4x4 section in a thread about steering. It requires some welding though.

I just put a set of 2000 Silverado Seats in my 70 with the fold-down center console and adjustable lumbar. The seats are extremely comfortable, but I had to take out the gas tank to get the seats in there to where the front mount was on the raised part of the floorboard and let the center seat fold up.
