Any tips for body swapping?
Well Friday night I'm starting my body swap. My plan is to take the box/ fenders/ front clip/ doors/rear end and rear slider window off my clean 83 and swap it all onto my rusty 84. The cab is nice on my 84 so I'm putting the good parts on it. Wonder if there are any tips to help the process go easier. I already broke one bolt on the box for the 84, got two off and 3 just spin. I don't need the 84 box any more so could I just grind the head off the box bolts from inside of the box? Any tips or tricks would be awesome or links for YouTube videos

Re: Any tips for body swapping?
if you are changing the box and front clip, then buy new mounts with new bolts and just cut the old bolts off . you should not use the old bolts or mounts the kit for mounts and bolts are cheap like dirt and you can do your cab mounts while you are at it. you will be glad you did after doing the swap.

Re: Any tips for body swapping?
Everything is like new on the 83. Even the vacuum lines are still squishy and mint. I believe the guy kept it in his garage for a big chunk of the trucks life. Very little surface rust of frame and all bolts look very nice and clean.

Use a torch to heat up bolts to break rust as needed.
Also I use a product called rust buster for stubborn bolts. Seems to work much better then anything else I tried before. |

Aerokroil or just plain kroil available from McMaster-Carr works well on rusted bolts. PB blaster is a distant second.
