FNG from Northern VA
New to this forum... strapping on a project 1955, 3100... keeping the 235 inline, but now trying to swap out the Saganaw 3 speed for a 700R4 with floor shifter... has anyone done this? Next step will be to drop off the straight axle front suspension and go to an IFS (with new steering column, disc brakes, etc)... does anyone have any clues on how to do all this? Thanks

Re: FNG from Northern VA
Welcome to the forum, You will get different opinions on your plans so I will give mine. I like the idea of keeping the inline 6 most people don't. Some will say easiest way to update front end is to do a frame clip or swap from a modern car or truck. I would get an ifs kit from a vender to convert the stock frame . If you do a frame graft or swap you have a nightmare to get all the sheetmetal to fit with proper gaps. Then you need to make bumpers that fit and do what they are supposed to . As it is now everything fits if you buy something that fits your truck everything still fits. Saves a lot of engineering to adapt things . When it gets tough to get things to work some give up the project.
