NV4500 conversion questions: X-member/Seat
I'm going to swapping a nv4500 into my 85 K20 that currently has a turbo 350.
I got two questions that I'm hoping someone can answer: 1. Transmission X-member-are they different? How so? 2. Does the factory floor shifter clear the bench seat? Thanks for any help. Mike |

I just did this swap in my truck, but mine is 2wd, yes the shifter clears, I have heard that you can use the same crossmember, I did, but again, mine is 2wd

Re: NV4500 conversion questions: X-member/Seat
i swapped my sm465 for a nv4500..its 2 wheel drive as well..shifter clears fine and I reused my crossmember but had to move it back 1 1/2" ...which means shortening driveshafts.. measure case length of both trans to give you an idea..

Re: NV4500 conversion questions: X-member/Seat
I had to move my crossmember forward about 2 inches, and have my driveshaft lengthened, I went from a t400 to a nv4500 though

Re: NV4500 conversion questions: X-member/Seat
Thanks Meat & Mongo,
So the 4500 fit within the trans tunnel? You just had to move the shifter opening forward or back, correct? Thanks, Mike |

Yes ..I had to move my shifter hole back from where it was original and mine has the high tunnel and it had plenty of clearance

Hey Mongo, what year is your truck? Where is your speedo gauge get fed from? Is it cable or sensor generated.
Thanks |

Re: NV4500 conversion questions: X-member/Seat
Mines a 81..on the speedo I wanted to keep my original as my truck only had 22600 verified miles on it when I bought it a couple years back (came from local fire dept) and the trans was pulse speedo so I had to use a Dakota digital convertor box on mine.
