Help with tie rods
Hi I have a 1965 K20 pickup fleetside and am having a hard time finding the tie rods that are attached to the pitman arm. I can find the 3" outer tie rods everywhere but can't seem to find the inner tie rods. Would anyone know of another year that would swap over? I found some moog that were supposed to fit but the knuckles were to big and would hit. Thanks in advance for any help.

got that out of the way. So we talking about the drag link? what axle do you have? closed knuckle or open. Pictures would help.

Yes we are talking drag link. I couldn't remember the name. I believe my axle is a dana 44 and a closed knuckle. I found a drag link online today and it is a moog but it's not adjustable. I would prefer to have an adjustable. Does it matter? Thanks for your help.

Thanks PGSigns and 61K10 That thread and pics helped. I plan on running the manual steering box for now but may get tired of parking or slow turns and possibly switch over later. 61K10 did you ever run with the drag link rubbing like that? Just curious.

i manufacture a drag link for an obsolete gm vehicle and the link looks very similar to yours. maybe if you gave me an overall length (meas grease fitting to fitting) and some meas on the studs i could check

I did grind the plate it was rubbing on, but being a p/s box it did not turn as sharp. shortened the steering arm. (all in my build) you might build a drag link like i did. if the ball stud comes out of the pitman arm and it's tapered it might work.

I will try and get them tomorrow. I went to auto zone tonight and ordered the tie rods and adjusting sleeve that I saw on the other thread and I will take a look at them tomorow.

My drag link tie rod ends have 7/8" threads and is 15 3/4" long when everything bolted together.

is the one in the pic off your tk? any part numbers on it? Is the taper on the pitman are the same as the steering arm? if so you need two t/rod ends the same as the one i had for the steering arm as my p/arm is for a power steering box.

K10 I found some tie rods that will fit I bought 1 from auto zone and the other through Rock Auto The outer one is ES428L and the inner one is ES428R the are supposed to go on a 71 c20 I took my drag link coupling with me to the store and the the ES428L fit my left hand thread side but they didn't have availability for the other one so I had to go through Rock Auto. Thanks for your assistance!
