different bellhousing?
I am installing a 1989 350 ci. in a 68 p/u. Are the bell housings different from say a 81 350 ? And will the 3 speed tranny work with the different ( if it is) bell housing ?

Re: different bellhousing?
If they both came from trucks with 3 speeds they are the same. But like the Demon says they don't fit the stock 68 pickup. Most from cars use a smaller flywheel & clutch & won't clear the truck clutch.

Re: different bellhousing?
I have installed the newer cast aluminum bell housings in our old trucks, to use your old clutch throwout fork you just have to change the pivot ball from your old bell housing to the new one...the balls are different....and I was doing this in four wheel drive trucks so they mount with the transfer cases to crossmembers.for support....not sure what you have..

You also have to check the hole in the bell housing that fits over the transmission front bearing retainer. There are two different sizes, 4 11/16" and 5 1/8". Make sure the bell housing you are looking at is the one that fits your trans. LockDoc
