Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
First off, don't see a "need" for it, I wouldn't ever even think about it. But that's where I live and all that, don't have the weather that you may have.
I would look at ones that go right on the wiper first off. If not that something looking more original like these. http://www.macsautoparts.com/early_f...r-nozzles.html Or this fifties Corvette, they were actually common as an accessory on other cars sold aftermarket. I had a 60 Rambler American with them on the hood. But I would go with something like that if I were to run them. Brian

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
We need them here on the coast due to the constant ocean spray coating the windshield. I swear you can see film form in minutes just sitting still when its not raining. I was wondering what others do when installing them. I may just hook up my aftermarket pump and see where and how hard they spray. The idea of adding nozzles thru the firewall and up thru the cowl doesn't seem right.
As for originality, that was lost long ago with all the mods. |

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
I like MATINSR's suggestion above.
I ended up making my own after I searched the web and couldn't find any thing I liked... I probably would have used the ones he found, had I found them. I'm in western New York and we also need them here quite often. I use rain-x and all that, but you get caught out on a light drizzle day when the roads are a bit dirty and the dirty spray is annoying to see thru. I'm also just going to use a late model junk yard pump with a custom reservoir.

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
S10 trucks have a tank mounted ~1 gallon pump. I'd look to them for squirters as well.
There was a recent writeup in a super chevy or CC mag about a replacement for the wiper motor mounted washer pump. PM if there's a need to dig up the part number. |

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
The factory version for 54 was very similar to the corvette squirters shown. There was a foot pump by the dimmer switch, a glass bottle of fluid under the hood and 54 was the first year that there was a cable that ran from the foot pump to the wiper motor to make it "make a pass" when the pump pedal was depressed.

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
I didn't want to have anything sticking up from the hood or the cowl, so I installed these. If I recall, they were off the early Camaro. Kinda hard to see in the pic.

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
I drove though his hood last October and windshield squirters are danged well a necessity there if you want to drive the rig plus a big tank for washer fluid.
These should be easy to find in a wrecking yard there they are on my 98 BMW 528I but probably come on several Models of BMWs in those years. http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr4...?sort=4&page=1

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
Did someone say vintage truck windshield washer??
What about hiding a pair of nozzles inside the cowl vent? Or running some '70's style underhood nozzles and finding a way to fir them behind and under the stock hood? Or maybe a bezel with a wiper nozzle included? |

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
No cowl vent slots on a 54 so that idea good as it is won't work. I thought about doing that on my louvered hood on my 48 aiming them out of one of the back row of louvers.
I like that squirter on the wiper bezel idea but finding some that worked might be a serious challenge.

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
I was actually thinking of putting them inside the vent. You'd have to open the vent to use them but who ever drives when its cold out??

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
Still desperately looking for ideas. Have Hood type nozzles that would have to be mounted approx 10" from the edge of the hood to clear. Tubing would run on front of hood support. Most practical way but still intrusive. If i could find pre made cowl mounted nozzles with correct angle (preferably adjustable) would be nice. Now that i'm driving it so much the washer issue is becoming critical. Between bugs, dirt and constant ocean salt mist its a real pita for this old man to clean windshield so frequently. Waiting for U.S. AIR FORCE decals to be made and installed on hood before any nozzle holes are drilled. As progress is made i will be moving future posts with pics to the projects forum.

The factory style squirters for 54 were common with the corvette of that year. https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corv...l%2520Products
They plumb under the dash and wend town to a foot pump. 54 was the first year they actually had an additional cable to make the wipers make a pass when the pump was depressed. |

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
Don't look like they have the right angle to be a cowl mount and hit the windshield right.

I have original instructions scanned if you want to send me an e-mail address in a private message. The original kits are expensive but it would be a reference point at least.

They mount on either side of the fresh air vent and can be rotated to hit right spot on the windshield and the little ends are adjustable to hit the windshield in the correct up and down position.

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
Went back and saw the holes are on the side. Thought they were on the ends and was confusing. May consider it. Just wish there was more room to work under AD dashs. Thanks

I have found that old Porsche parts are often times over designed and work great on old trucks. Something like this would look kind of cool.

Re: Windsheild washer ideas 54 3100?
i'm not sure spray nozzles would even work no matter the style
even the 60s spray nozzles with marginal wipers just smeared the windshield it wasn't until the modern wipers that you could clean a windshield with the sprayers the wipers on these trucks just weren't that good keep a roll of paper towels and bottle of glass cleaner under the seat
