5.3 with 3 on the tree
Hello all I'm looking to do a 5.3 swap in my 63 Gmc and I was thinking about switching from a 3 speed column shift to a automatic. But then I was thinking it would be different to hook the 5.3 to the 3 speed but I don't know what it would involve but I'm pretty sure it's been done before. Any input would be appreciated thanks in advance

Expensive...especially if you have to buy all new aftermarket stuff (bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, throwout bearing)..I put a nv4500 behind mine..it was cheaper than doing a auto but was way more than I thought it should have cost...they are proud of them LS flywheels..not sure what tranny you've got but it better be in good shape...that LS will turn it wrong side out..if you want manual I'd go with the nv4500..love the o.d. with my 4.10s

Re: 5.3 with 3 on the tree
There are dozens of guides out there for mating old GM trannys up to the newer LS blocks but ill give you the basic runaround. Im not sure what tranny you have but if its similar to M22 rockcrusher then you should be able to use this info...
Flywheel - I used a Sachs NFW1050. Pilot bearing - NAL-12557583 Pressure plate - I used a 11 inch clutch kit for a 1980 corvette but I believe any 11 inch clutch from any older Chev cars will work. Bellhousing - I used a small block bellhousing from a 69 camaro and it fit fine. As for the shift linkage and such you would have to make sure the location of the tranny doesn't move far from stock otherwise you may run into some problems. Thats the just of it but like Mongo said whatever tranny you use better be in good shape, these LS engines put out some good torque.
