Pull cab with doors on.
What the easiest way to pull the cab with the doors on? They shut and fit so perfect now, I don't wanna mess that up... haha... Has anyone ever done this? I was thinking that I could run a chain to each big fender mounting bolts on the front and have a pipe with a guy on each side. I'm still trying to figure out what I can do for the back... I have an abundance of friends that can come and help, so manpower isn't an issue. Most people use a engine hoist cause their doing it solo right??

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
This is how I did it. Have a buddy with a boom crane, took cab off C20 100% complete, minus hood. Sat it on a C10, worked great!

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
I opened the doors and spanned some timbers across the tops of the door openings so not to bend the doors. Then I closed the drivers door as much as I could, rolled down the window and stuck the picker through the window under the wood and started to lift. It did help to have a second person to steady it because it is tipsy, but it worked well.

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
I have a carport and have done it many times with the doors on. Engine hoist on the core support. Cum a long on each seat belt bolt with the cable coming through the window opening. Roll the frame back, drop body on a dolly or leave it hanging.

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
So if I had 4 guys to help me, I could run chain to the front fender bolts and then also run chain to the seat belt bolts and then have a pipe go through the chain and basically lift it off right?? Clear as mud?

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
Someone posted the weight of a bed recently, seems it was 600 pounds, I think the cab weights more with carpet seat glass etc. If you have 4 strong young guys I think it would be doable. Which way are you moving it? Backwards over the tires? I would remove the tires and pay the frame down as low as possible.

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
I have to pull my cab off soon, we have a forklift with some extended forks hoping this will work, it would be nice to know how much the cab weighs but I guess we can just try and see how it goes.

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
I used a cherry picker because I was by myself. Its not rocket science, there are many different ways im sure. The main point I would make is what I learned the hard way, that being that the firewwall side of cab is heavier than the back glass side so you have to hook your rigging accordingly. I used a 4x4 run through the open windows with notches cut out of 4x4 to fit around the top of door frame, attached to the top of cherry picker. I had to relocate the 4x4 towards the front of cab instead of the center of doorways after the "learning incident" lol. Good luck.

I had to put a little weight in back to balance the firewall.

Re: Pull cab with doors on.
Working alone with no hoists or cranes just using a floor jack and a couple 8' 4x4s. Once you get the 4x4s under the cab you jack it and crib it up till you can roll the frame out. Figured that way out on K/5s and Suburbans. I only did it w/o an engine crane once. With the crane you bolt a chain at the fender bolts and seat belts to get the 4x4s between frame and cab
