Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
Not really an electrical question, hence the post here.
I know the wiring is different, but will a CS144 alternator physically fit the stock brackets on a (short water-pump) 350SBC? I've read that these alternators are bigger externally than the stock alternators, but couldn't find anything about if they fit (without mods) after a search here. Thanks!

Re: Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
I tried without any luck on a 68 c10, had to get a custom upper bracket and used a 71-72 lowee bracket to tie it to the head. i dont even think alan Grove makes a cs 144 compatible bracket. My custom upper was just a long thin 1/4" piece cut into a slight boomerang. Nothing fancy.

CS130 will, you just have to get the right clocking. Not a 144, but I've used a couple and had good results. I did do the iceberg conversion on them just for insurance since the rear bearing is a weak point.

Late model alternator with factory brackets.
Also a factory truck bracket setup on a 64 SS Impala motor with a 94 amp alternator..

Re: Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
Unless you have some need for the higher amp alternator there is really no need for it. If you have a high power stereo competition system then yea but for most trucks the 94 amp is more than enough. They bolt right in and if you buy the right one it hooks up just like the factory one.
I have done several of these upgraded alternators and re do the wiring so they look pretty much factory.

I'm a big fan of the 12SI as well (321-266). It does max out at 94A, but that's still a lot of amps. You could weld with your headlights on.

But the Cap and the Optima may be of some assistance, along with the fact that the ignition is the only other thing requiring energy while driving... I have a nice 1-wire that has been laying around forever cause I have not had the need to install it. Brand new alternator, a little beat up from being moved plate to place though...

In my opinion a one wire alternator isn't as good as most think. At idle it's not even putting anything back into the battery unless it's been modified even more. Mad electric is very helpful on this subject.

Re: Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
Andy this thread has puzzled me since I haven't heard of any problem mounting the CS 130 or the 144 in the stock mount. The AD 244 is a different story because it is a bigger body and the mount has to be modified. You wouldn't need that one unless you were running bags and a huge amp though.

Re: Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
What do you need man? Between Vett and me we can talk you through it. It's pretty simple really.
Trouble with your truck lights dimming are music fading in and out? Chances are the 37 amp alternator isn't putting enough amps out to power the system. The fix is pretty simple though. a 95 Buick Riviera 94 amp alternator The pictures say it all. If you want to clean the wiring up even more just strip the tape off and run the wires straight to the alternator. Then take the old external voltage regulator out of the truck and toss it!

Re: Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
your photo, shows 12:00 example but the 12SI on O'Riley's is clocked at 9:00. Though it is for 1985 Buick Riviera and not a 95 Buick Riviera from your post.
Edit: if I am l am looking at the stock alt correctly, the connect is at 12:00... so that is the better "fit" I am guessing?

Here’s the internally regulated alternator on a former Blazer of mine. Bolts right in and I used the plug and play adapter from AAW. Clocked at 3:00 I believe: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/RSE2134356

The 10 years difference in year model is what is wrong. GM changes things in 10 years. If you get the 95 it will bolt right in.

Re: Do the "CS" style alternators fit our stock brackets?
I just swapped to this one 2weeks ago. worked great with my stock bigblock brackets. Was Clocked correct, 105 amp. Had to get a different plug with a resistor and bypass the regulator. Off of a 89 Pontiac safari.
