Will an LT4 fit?
I have an LQ4 installed and driving in my 1955 TF truck. I found an amazing deal on an LT4 engine out of the current Z06 Vette. Any idea if this would go in place of my LQ4?

below the line is a copy and paste from wikipedia on google.
it would fit dimensionally as far as mounts, exhaust and bellhousing but you may have some issues with the oil pan fitment etc. it is dry sumped so not too sure if the LQ4 pan, baffle tray, oil pump pick up, dipstick tube and dipstick would work. you would also need the computer I suppose and possibly need to mod the air intake system on the current set up. if it is a smokin deal it may be worthwhile picking it up anyway. I am waaay far away from being an expert on that stuff. ------------------------ LQ4 The Vortec 6000 LQ4, is a V8 truck engine. Displacement is 5.97 L (364 cu in) from a 4.0-inch (101.6 mm) bore and 3.622-inch (92.0 mm) stroke . It is an iron/aluminum (1999 & 2000 model year engines had cast iron heads) design and produces 300 hp (224 kW) to 325 hp and 360 lb·ft (488 N·m) to 370 lb·ft (502 N·m). LQ4s are built in Romulus, Michigan and Silao, Mexico. (VIN U) Applications: Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Pickup, 3500 Pickup, Crew Cab, and Chassis Cab/GMC Sierra 2500 HD Pickup and Crew Cab, C3, Denali, and 3500 Pickup and Chassis Cab, 1500HD Crew Cab Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon XL Denali Hummer H2 SUT GMC Yukon Denali ----------------------------------- LT4 The LT4 engine builds on the design strengths of the previous LS9 supercharged engine used in the sixth-generation Corvette ZR1 and leverages the technologies introduced on the seventh-generation Corvette Stingray, including direct injection, cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing, to take Corvette performance to an all-new level. The LT4 engine is based on the same Gen 5 small block foundation as the Corvette Stingray’s LT1 6.2L naturally aspirated engine, incorporating several unique features designed to support its higher output and the greater cylinder pressures created by forced induction, including: Rotocast A356T6 aluminum cylinder heads that are stronger and handle heat better than conventional aluminum heads, lightweight titanium intake valves, forged powder metal steel connecting rods which are highly machined to an optimized geometry for increased strength while eliminating unnecessary reciprocating mass, 10.0:1 compression ratio, high for a forced-induction engine, enhances performance and efficiency and is enabled by direct injection, forged aluminum pistons with unique, stronger structure to ensure strength under high cylinder pressures, stainless steel exhaust manifolds for structure at higher temperatures, aluminum balancer for reduced mass, and standard dry-sump oiling system with a dual-pressure-control oil pump. The engine uses a 1.7L Eaton TVS supercharger. Although smaller than the previous 2.3l supercharger used on the sixth-gen ZR1, it spins 5000 RPM faster thus generating boost quicker while making only slightly less total boost than the LS9 engine. By the way, the LQ9 has cast iron block. corvette has aluminum block.

Look up "Finnegan's Garage" on youtube.com
His truck is a C10 but he is doing exactly what you describe, going from an LS2 to an LT4. Might not cover 100% of it but will get you a good idea what you'll have to do. Of course, you haven't told us about your transmission, traction aids, rear diff, wheels / tires, or anything else. Getting the LT4 in there is a big first step, but getting it to work overall in the truck is going to be harder.

I'm rollin with an LQ4 6.0 bolted to a 4L80E and a C4 front and rear IRS on the truck frame with boxed frame rails. I installed the engine and trans from scratch and fabbed LS mounts to the Vette subframe. This setup propels the truck well, but there is always room for improvement.
I fully understand that the stock 4L80E would need upgraded and the C4 rear end would snap like glass with 650 HP. I will take a look at the you tube project. Thanks for everyones input. |

I think I'm going to answer similarly oversimplified questions with "Yes" because they only ask about the need to install a few fasteners. Honestly, I would not even call a stock engine replacement in an OEM late model vehicle "bolt in" these days.
